Becasue some people are idiots and don't know where to stop.

I know its a sterotypical view of Ireland, somthing I normally hate, but drinking is part of a culture that I grew up in. I have a had a few drinks on night out etc but never gotten drunk. People get mad over under-age drinking and rightly so because alchol is a controlled substance. Young people are not fully developed and the earlier you start the more damage you do to yourself. Also the potential risks that are created when you are drunk are endless. Not all people have good friend that take care of them. I have seen on more then one occasion a drunk girl or guy sleeping, stumbling around and otherwise dumped by their friends, left to their own devices, putting themselves and others in harms way

Again I'm not preching, I have drank on previous occasions, underage I might add. And again it is thought by many people to be part of our culture. I am pretty much speaking from experience from things I have seen happen to good friends of mine.

seriously?
for people in their teens are still growing, and people are still growing well into adulthood, and alcohol destroys
your development, as well as smoking and drug (duh)

then are teenagers just simply stupid, in many cases when it comes to alcohol. and of course adults as well. People generally tend to be stupid with alcohol.

I myself have chosen not to drink and joined the Swedish variation of IOGT (called UNF.)
but I'm not going around and tell my friends that they should not drink, for it is your own choice.

"but I'm not going around and tell my friends that they should not drink, for it is your own choice."

Of course you don't tell them that they should not drink.

What you do is to tell them all the bad aspects of alcohol so that they come to the conclusion that they shouldn't drink by themselves.

ooooh good question! em well i would have to agree with Lydia Sheehy's answer XD and to add to it the reason why most teenagers want to try new things such as alcohol and drugs is because certain parts of their brains aren't developed enough so its no our faults if we want to try a drink or whatever its evolutions fault!

DFTBA XD

evolution turned the human body into a well oiled machine, and you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know what happens when you drink. also, appeal to ignorance is a logical fallacy.

Sorry, are you blaming a theoretical natural process for the fact that some teens are gullible enough to try things which they know are dangerous? If this is your suggestion, I have no wish to speak to anyone of your level of ignorance. The main cause of addictions and teenagers alcohol related crimes is peer pressure, not evolution.

I know this sounds abusive, but really. Come on!

It's one thing if you're having a glass of wine with your family. But people these days seem to be getting irresponsible, drinking to get drunk. They do stupid things. And that is stupid.

Underage drinking is not done responsibly in some parts of the world, and when it is, it's not that which gets into the news. I don't drink and won't drink except perhaps a glass of red wine with dinner.

At any moment my country can send me a letter drafting me into war, yet after a hard day's work when I walk past the bar I can't stop in for a minute and have a beer. Anyone else find this messed up?

Reply to This

No, what I find messed up is that sometimes an under aged individual will try beer, then have another and another until they are so drunk they could sleep on a bed of nails.

kind of. are you not considered adult and legaly your own agent at 18? i find that very strange.
where i come from, a winegrowing and beerbrewing region children will often have a little sip of wine on ocacions. i think they are less likely to become crazed bing drinkers.

making the stuff forbidden surely increases the atraction especially as it is so often advertised as sophisticated and desirable or otherwise cool.

Where I come from children who are given alcohol at home are more likely to become crazed bing drinkers.
