Nerdfighters

I lurked around and noticed that we didn't have a "currently reading" thread. You make me sad, Nerdfighters.
But anyway, just as the title states: What are you reading right now, and what is your opinion on it? Would you suggest this book to other people? Or is this one the public should stay away from?

I'm currently reading Magic Kingdom for Sale - Sold! by Terry Brooks.
So far I find it hilarious and frustrating all at the same time (Curse you Ben and your ability to get in trouble!). It has a different outlook on the fantasy world, and it's actually pretty interesting. This is a book I'd recommend to new and long-time fantasy readers. It's pretty awesome, and you never really can go wrong with a Terry Brooks novel.
(Also, my copy was printed in 1987, so it's got that wonderful old book smell to it. Yummm.)

I'm reading "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao" right now. It's pretty interesting, but confusing because the setting, time, and characters keeps changing around unexpectedly, but it'll be interesting to see how it all comes together in the end.

I'm reading 'Little Women' I think it has a nice story line but it is quite boring to read and isn't really holding my interest.

i'm sorry to hear that. I absolutely love little women. it's one of my favourites. but it's all about what we get out of it isn't it? i hope you finish (/finished) it.

Yeah I finshed it a while ago... I liked it but I probably won't read it again :)

I'm rereading Wuthering Heights, definitely one of my favorite novels ever, and with less than a hundred pages left, have let it take backseat while I work my way through the Harry Potter series.

At the moment, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is consuming my waking hours. I'm in love with the idea of a Quidditch World Cup, and quite regret that I'll never be able to attend one. As far as plotlines go, I think this just may be my favorite HP book yet.

Right now Im reading Little Brother by Cory Doctorow.
I really like it. It's perfect for computer/tech geeks. The book does a fantastic job at explaining computer concepts.
Cory get's picked up by the Homeland Security people, who are 'fighting terrorists' when really they're just controling the nation.
conspiracies. Not terrorism. that's what I think about and that's why I enjoy this book lol.

I'm reading Cold Sassy Tree for a high school summer assignment. It's actually pretty good, but the fact that I have to read it ruins the book. Book assignments make reading (something I enjoy above everything else) a major chore.

That's all a matter of perspective I think. Don't view it as a chore. Just try to see what the book is saying. Don't think about what the assignment is, just read, and then if you have to go back and find something later, you can.

Currently reading Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers, which is a very interesting retelling of the book of Hosea from the Bible. It's very interesting, and I'm interested to see where it goes. I just like that it takes the Biblical themes and really expounds on them.

I don't know what to read next, probably something mainstream.... Maybe Uglies by Scott Westerfield? I understand those books are wonderful.

I'm currently reading Torture the Artist by Joey Goebel. It's one of the best books I've read - it's about a boy, Victor, who has a horrible childhood thanks to his mum being a druggie, alcoholic whore (no, really, that's not just my opinion). He gets selected by a special school run by a company wanted to start a "New Renaissance", where they can revolutionise the media and restore it to its former glory. The company hire an agent for Victor and instruct him to make Victor's life a misery, so that he produces the best work he physically can - and it works. His shows and songs because insanely popular, and Victor stays miserable. It's seriously well written and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves a different, but extremely interesting book. :)

I'm reading What is the What by Dave Eggers. It's a novel based more or less on real events that happened in the life of Sudanese refugee Valentino Achak Deng. Eggers doesn't really use flowery language or anything fancy, but he structures the narrative quite cleverly; fading in between Deng's modern day American life and his past African life as if he is trying to reconcile the two.
