Nerdfighters

I was wondering today, as this crossed my mind, I am curious to why or why not you believe in god and what your proof for either side is. I am not trying to state either side is wrong, just curious to what peoples backing for what they believe are. I would love to hear why each person genuinely believes in what they do and what proof they have. I find these things interesting. What evidence you have to support why you believe in said belief.

I've never read that Einstein quote. It's wonderful.
Indeed. This reverence for our elegant universe is a beautiful feeling that we can have without ever sacrificing our reason. To me, that's heaven.
Seconded.
I have a satirical blog that "proves" that The Doctor is god.
this is seemingly out of the ordinary to waht most people are posting...
i belive in god myself, and the backing is purely my own faith i went through a stage wehre i questioned and doubted... and rationally, maby it dosen't make since... but belief in a god often makes my life seem as it has more meaning, or more hope when i have a bad day
I don't believe in God(s) or anything... I'm not sure if it's because I'm dissatisfied with the actions of past and modern religions or if it's simply because there's no evidence supporting the idea of (a) God(s).
xD that should be the newest religion, nerdfighterism
I would love to put nerdfighterism as my facebook religion. DONE.
I am not very religious at all. I vaguely believe in god. I don't really believe in the stuff set down by the bible or any other religious text out there, but I do believe that there is something out there, some greater force, that has an effect on our lives. I've never been one for the structure of most religions myself. The rules set down are often so solid I wonder how they got there in the first place. I am not a faithful person, I cannot believe something simply because I am told. I just have this gut feeling that you can't put everything down to science and fact is all. I feel that there is something out there that has an effect on the way our lives are shaped. Not our personal choices, but the world around us. I am well aware of the fact that a gut feeling does not really count as solid evidence, but it is how I feel. I do not pin the scientifically unexplained on this vague deity, nor do I feel it has shaped the mechanics of everything. But there are somethings that simply are not scientific matters. I realize I make very little sense right now. I'll just skip to the bottom line:

I believe there is something or other out there that somehow shapes the way our lives occur. We have control over our own choices, but not the choices presented to us. Said "Force" is not responsible for the unexplained or the seemingly miraculous.
My belief in God is somwhat complex. I understand that there is actually alot of so called "evidence" that some people belive that God does not exsist. I think the reason that I believe in God is because I really do TRY to believe in God. You have to remember that in the christian faith God is all powerful. He can do anything and everything. Also you must remember that just because there is a question doesn't mean God is going to reveal the answers in a way you understand. It's just like I didnt understand how carbondating dated the earth billions of years old and yet the bible dates it only a couple of thousand years old. I finally understood that God could have created the Earth a couple thousand years ago in the form of being billions of years old. Logically this does make some sense. The real thing im trying to point out is that ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE FOR GOD. Even creating an earth that is already old.
I believe in Hope, for the world would die without it.

This question might seem out of place, but why is it that spiritual matters can't be proved by spiritual means? Is it really rational to demand physical or empirical evidence of a spiritual being or vice versa? To discover if God exists, spiritual means are the only way to figure that out. Spirituality and Deity cannot be measured with a teaspoon, thermometer, or graph, and I would say it's folly to try to. I would never ask a physics student to close their eyes and try to feel the equation that explains gravity, yet that's exactly what I would tell someone to do when that person is foraying into religion. Spirituality is a matter of the mind and heart. It's proof, but perhaps an intrinsic proof, requiring a person to trust their instincts and feelings.
