Remember how in Star Wars, there was the Force. But it wasn't just about having an uber Jedi master that did happy pretty things, it was also about the Sith. And when they found Annakin, they could see that he had a lot of potential to "bring balance to the force"; but what the didn't seem to realise is the balance he would achieve would be to become an uber Sith Master - Vader. In this universe, the Happy Pretty Jedi and the Ugly Mean Sith were aspects of the same force. When in equilibrium, in balance, The Force was doing it's job. That meant good and evil co-existing.
So with that in mind, let's discard the terms 'good' and 'evil' and 'force' and for the sake of argument, replace it with the terms 'power', 'control' and 'influence'. And consider the proposition that when one influence has the most power, it takes control, so that the other influence has to seek power, in order to take control. And this creates a tug of war between the two influences, which, for the sake of argument, could be anything, and there need not only be two influences.
N influences >0 (potentially infinite)
N control = 1
N power = 1
Equilibrium would be achieved when all influences in the system have equal amounts of power and therefore, equal amounts of control. But....with the tug of war raging....how do we get to equilibrium? And, have we ever done that?

Permalink Reply by Hutch Hogan on May 15, 2012 at 8:05am I don't particularly know. I'm not really well versed in the expanded universe of Star Wars. Though if they are obsessive with the light side of the force being the only side of the force that ought to be used they could try to install themselves as a ruling power.
Alternatively, they could be apathetic towards people who cannot connect with the Force.

Uhm, ok would they still be fighting any new jedi or sith that may appear? i.e. would there be a maintainence cost of their successs
Permalink Reply by Latch33570 on May 15, 2012 at 5:20pm Well if it wiped out the jedi and the siths they would rule. Politicans suck big hairy ones.
Permalink Reply by CD on May 16, 2012 at 11:47am what do you mean by rule? would they "be in charge" or are you using the term in it's casual sense, such as "that rules man i like it!"?
Permalink Reply by Latch33570 on May 17, 2012 at 4:25pm In charge. If a third party killed off the jedi and the sith who else to challenge them.

Permalink Reply by CD on May 24, 2012 at 12:18pm Don't you mean nerd-fighting?
Actually UAP is the correct acronym, because UFO has been conflated with aliens. I have never seen an alien. Just a big red ruby.
