Nerdfighters

Do not worry there are no spoilers in this discussion. However I want to talk about movie rateings and what is appropriate and unappropriate for kids. I recently saw Transformers 2 and for a pg 13 movie I was shocked at the content.
If anyone else out there has seen this movie please give me your input on this movie alone.
I know all the big things like nudity and things of that nature is out but what makes a movie borderline. Going back to Transformers 2, I feel anyone under the age of 15 should not see the movie. So what do you guys think. What are the things people should watch out for or what are the factors that would make you say no to your kid.

What is 'acceptable' for kids to see seems so watered down and boring compared to when I was a kid throughout the 80's. There was nothing wrong with a bit of violence, death, swearing etc (within reason). Star Wars, Goonies, Gremlins etc.
Even Ghoulies was PG13!

Now, it's all so lame, the kids can watch Dumbo and Winnie the Pooh if they are lucky I guess... What is it about Transformers that makes it so 'borderline'?

the comedy is very off color so to speak. Some what sterotypical. The cussing was way more out there as well.

plus it teaches kids to plagiarize because they completely stole the location from Indiana Jones The Last Crusade which is just horrible

haha! Yes, more to the point, let's get onto why it was a shit movie?!

Dear god was it horrible. It also had a TERRIBLE cover of a talking heads song.

It would have been difficult to be as good as the first (as with most '2nd' movies).
Apart from that...
* The plot was utterly ridiculous, jumping from one random event to the next
* The special effects were spectacular, but they assaulted you with them from 2 minutes into the movie and continued to do so until the bitter end of the movie, leaving you numb to them and bored of them
* There were several plot and technical inconsistencies - I won't go into these now for fear of you drooling onto your keyboard with how boring and nerdy I am!
* See further down for my comment on Megan Fox
Have you had enough yet?!

"I feel anyone under the age of 15"

Really? I didn't see anything that was all that bad. Besides the plot and what not, of course. Put it was put in the right rating. Small children shouldn't see it, but anyone smart enough to tell it's not real life should be fine.

Honestly I think the MPAA and the ratings are for crap. I know a 9 year old who watches the Saw movies and he's fine. By and large I think the government doesn't have a place regulating the media in such a way, and its the parent's job. Unfortunately a disturbingly high percentage of parents don't seem to give a sh*t and aren't interested in actually doing their job.

I love scary movies but I would never see saw, too psychological. My friend told me the plot one time and it had me scared to fall asleep in case I woke up chained to a toilet.

Saw (all of them) - insulting to our intelligence. Not scary, just shit. You aren't missing much.
Oh now I feel like I'm being too harsh. The first one was OK, I guess! Good music too, until it gets stuck in your head on a loop for 3 days and you feel like you are going insane (more insane I should say!).
