Nerdfighters

Do not worry there are no spoilers in this discussion. However I want to talk about movie rateings and what is appropriate and unappropriate for kids. I recently saw Transformers 2 and for a pg 13 movie I was shocked at the content.
If anyone else out there has seen this movie please give me your input on this movie alone.
I know all the big things like nudity and things of that nature is out but what makes a movie borderline. Going back to Transformers 2, I feel anyone under the age of 15 should not see the movie. So what do you guys think. What are the things people should watch out for or what are the factors that would make you say no to your kid.

is an r like an 18?

R means you can't see it at a theater when you're under 17 without parents with you.

If anyone has watched the movie RENT with the commentary, Adam Pascal, who plays Roger, brings up an interesting point. They had to cut out a couple of f-bombs because the limit for a pg-13 movie is two or three (I can't remember which), and they wanted it to stay pg-13. However, in the scene with the cut out f-bombs, if the woman who would have said them would have ramdomly chopped off another character's head, the rating wouldn't have changed at all. Another thing about Rent, there is a scene with a stripper, and it managed to keep the pg-13 rating. I'm glad that Rent has the rating it does, because it's a great film with a great measage, but it's for a more mature audience than your average 13-year-old. Basically, RENT is a good example of how the MPAA system sucks.

RENT is awesome!! I think a 13 year old could handle it fine.Everyone should watch it!

If anyone has seen fast food nation, you know the scence where they are having sex in the car? I watched that with my parents, and it was awkward. My parent and I aren't that open about sex and I sincerely wished they had changed the rating from 15 to 18.

has anyone ever seen that zohan movie? i was appalled that that was pg13. it only made that rating because they didnt actually use the words sex and others that would tell what was actually happening instead they used funny made-up words in place of those. i havent seen transformers 2 and i probably wont be.

big report on Lars von Trier's new film in the Sunday Times this week, it's causing a bit of stir because it includes, among other things, gratuitous penetrative sex, female genetal self-mutilation, a man being abused until he spurts blood from a certain orifice, the whole thing doesn't exactly end well.
and the title?
Antichrist.
The subject of the article wasn't is this film safe for kids, but is this film safe for anyone?

in other news, what are your thoughts on this:

I agree about the Transformers 2 thing. There were a lot of younger kids in the theater when I saw it, and I suppose that's because the first movie was pretty kid friendly--compared to the second one, at the very least. Every bit of dialog in the first 15 minutes of the movie had swears, and some harsh ones at that, not like the first movie. Not to mention the majority of the kids in the theater were terrified of the action which, again, was much more intense than the last movie. However, I do disagree with your age limit. I think no one under 13 should see the movie. I guess that goes along with the rating, which none of the parents seemed to heed. Overall, I loved the movie, but wanted to smack the parents who brought in their smaller kids and then didn't leave when they saw that the movie was not appropriate for them.
