Nerdfighters

Do not worry there are no spoilers in this discussion. However I want to talk about movie rateings and what is appropriate and unappropriate for kids. I recently saw Transformers 2 and for a pg 13 movie I was shocked at the content.
If anyone else out there has seen this movie please give me your input on this movie alone.
I know all the big things like nudity and things of that nature is out but what makes a movie borderline. Going back to Transformers 2, I feel anyone under the age of 15 should not see the movie. So what do you guys think. What are the things people should watch out for or what are the factors that would make you say no to your kid.

I want Megan Fox because she's an anime watching, comic book reading, sexy, strong-willed liberal.

And to be honest, I'd prefer her as a friend, lol.

Many kids have accidentally exposed to sex scene if their parents forgot to lock the bedroom door. I agreed we shouldn't have that much of a taboo on sex.

Exactly. We're sheltering kids from the wrong things. Sex is necessary to continue the species, and its (usually) a beautiful, intimate act. Violence is, to me at least, an unnatural act of aggression. Its also something we shouldn't be encouraging. I mean, we don't need more people like George Bush Jr who solve problems by "preemptive strikes" rather than diplomacy, do we?

"However I would not like my 4 to 17 year old to see a porn."

So wait, are you saying you would not like your children to watch porn until they're eighteen? I started looking at porn at fourteen and I turned out alright. Most of my friends probably did the same thing.

Yeah was a typo and it was just brought to my attention. I was looking at porn around the same age. I turned out ok as well. I think most boys would be lying if they say they do or have not owned a cheap porn magazine before or at the very least 10 to 12.

exactly. i started watching secret life of the american teenager when i was 10, (2007) and my my mother kept telling me "if you have any questions, you can talk to me, okay." after every episode basically. also, that is when we would watch that show "two and a half men" . as for secret life, grace is an idiot. she should have waited, and she is a moron, and she and jack did not kill her dad. she is an idiot!!

Ok have anyone of you seen Year One? Seriously? PG? No way. It should be at LEAST 14+, not even PG-13, I dont care if you have a guardian, they havent seen the movie either and dont know whats coming. I am 18 so I dont care, but really, Year One was waaaayyyyyyy over a "PG" rating.

Watch the documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated. It covers the history of the MPAA and sheds some light on the illogical censorship that goes on in the movie industry. It's a great film. I highly recommend it.

I honestly think the whole MPAA rating schema is a total joke. It's basically a secret group (yes, secret. Their identities are kept secret from the public) of people who get to choose what is acceptable to watch and what is not. We aren't even allowed to know who these people are who are determining what is or is not appropriate for children to be exposed to. They aren't psychologists, or child experts, or behavior specialists, or experts of any kind really. They're just regular people. They don't even use any type of official scale to rate what's G, or PG, or R, etc. They just view a movie and censor it based on their personal opinions. Really.

I was going to suggest This Film. It's really interesting.

You didn't mention there are freaking RELIGIOUS LEADERS in the room with them. They don't say anything but they're RIGHT THERE.

Yeah I heard about that, I'll have to take a look! Doesn't surprise me. But then again, this setup is just reflective of society in general surely - a select few deciding what's 'best' for everyone else. Someone has to do it, or we would all be anarchists and society would crumble, but who decides who gets to decide? Who decides who gets to decide who gets to decide?
Hmmm, it's all too much, I need a coffee to ponder some more...I hope my coffee is R-Rated, I need some hardcore caffeine!
