I guess I'd need more information to give exact advice.
But you need to think about what your chances with him are like and how awkward things would be if he knew you were interested but didn't return the feelings.
If he's more mature (and he's a nerdfighter, so it's possible), then I would suggest thinking it through, but just telling him how you feel.
Things will be a bit uncomfortable for a bit, but afterwards you will feel so much better
AND you might have a pretty good chance with him anyways.
You'll never know if you don't try.

If you're under the age of 21, go find someone else. If you're over the age of 21, think about it for a bit and then go find someone else. There are lots of guys out there.

Situations like that are very complicated and annoying. I myself just got out of a similar situation. You never know what someone else is thinking, and most of the time you don't know what they're feeling. I, regrettably, am still in love with my best friend, but I now live thousands of miles away from him. I know that it is very hard to have strong feelings for someone so close to you, and feel like you can't act on them. In some situations, its good to just tell the person how you feel, but at the same time that is a big risk. Sometimes you just don't want to complicate the situation even more. But something that I think you should defiantly do, is try not to think of the guy as something more than he is. I mean sure, he may be amazing, and you may love him, but everyone has their faults. You also need to think about what is really important to you. For me, I could have tried with my best friend before I moved, and risk us falling apart. But I decided that I couldn't bear the idea of losing his friendship. I thought back on all of the fun times we had together, and decided that our relationship would no doubt end at some point, but I never wanted to lose my best friend.

You can.
One thing guys sometimes do is say they are itnerested in someone else and actually are interested in you as well.
Plus, it's honesty. you just need to gauge his maturity and see if HE can handle being told.
I think that would work out best in the long run.
