Harry Potter is something that is a part of so many childhood memories. It's literally been with me as I've grown up and become an adult (I know I'm only 16 but I can vote and I consider myself an adult).

The earliest memory of harry potter is when my dad gave me the first harry potter book. I remember it very clearly considering the fact that I don't really have many memories from when I was younger. I remember he gave me this book and said "It's meant to be really good but I don't know if it might be a bit too difficult for you".

I also remember seeing the first film at the cinema. I speifically remember the bit at the end where Quirell is crumbling and there's fire everywhere and it's all going down. :P

I think it's really interesting that I have so many memories that are special to me, which surround Harry Potter and I was wondering if anyone else had some as well.

My brother read me the first chapter of the first book, and got me hooked. He used to read a chapter to me every couple of nights, but gave up pretty quickly (can't remember how old we were). I struggled getting through it though, since I didn't have the attension span for books that I have now, so my dad brought me the audio CDs for books one to three, read by Stephen Fry. (Which thus began my eventual obsession with Stephen Fry, but that's another story.)
My first memory of Harry Potter is my parents bringing me and my little brother to see the first movie. At that point I'd never heard of Harry Potter but after watching the movie I went home and started reading the books with great abandon.
I remember in the third grade I picked up the first book and told my teacher I was going to read it. She called my mother because she thought it would be too hard for me and was going to tell me I wasn't allowed to read it. I read the first five Harry Potter books when I was in the third grade and then waited for the rest to come out. I am 15 now they are still my favorite books. :)
I was six and I can remember being jealous of everything my cousin did (he's two years older than me) so, he put the book down and I stole it. I can vaguely remember getting my mom to read it to me. It's all kinda foggy though because I was six at the time.

My first memory was when a family friend of ours read the first book to my brother and I. I don't know how young we were, but we were young enough to be too young to read it by ourselves. I'm sure I had Harry Potter experiences before this, but it's the only one I vividly remember. We never got through it all, though. I think we started over two or three times just because the times we saw him were few and far between. Oh, well. That's what got me to read it in the first place, so it's ok. =)

My first memory was looking up in the school library, and on the tallest shelf Harry Potter was there. I looked up at it like it was unobtainable, like it was a big kid book series. I was determined to do it, so first I read all of the Series Of Unfortunate Events books that had come out at that point, and had my mom read them to me during dinner, and then read them over. (I eat dinner at a separate time as my parents, because my dad gets home at 9pm.) Then I was convinced I could read them, so I checked out the first book and after the first page, had her read it to me. XDI had trouble reading- I could only really read towards the end of 2nd grade. (Which I find ironic, because by 6th grade apparently I had a 10th grade reading level.)

I remember having my dad reading the first book to me and my sister. We sat on either side of him on the couch and just listened. :D Good times.
I remember my dad reading me the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone when I was 3 or 4.
I remember when my mom showed me and my brother the first book. (Not sure how old I was, but not older that six.) We were like "psh, that seems so lame", but she started reading it aloud to us before we went to sleep. We (well, mostly me) just fell in love with it. She read the first four books to us and started the fifth one when it came out, but she read only one chapter a night I couldn't wait and I just read it myself in less than a week. I was maybe eight or nine at that time. Pretty much all that my relatives remember about me from those days were the giant books I read in the corner at birthday parties.
