Harry Potter is something that is a part of so many childhood memories. It's literally been with me as I've grown up and become an adult (I know I'm only 16 but I can vote and I consider myself an adult).

The earliest memory of harry potter is when my dad gave me the first harry potter book. I remember it very clearly considering the fact that I don't really have many memories from when I was younger. I remember he gave me this book and said "It's meant to be really good but I don't know if it might be a bit too difficult for you".

I also remember seeing the first film at the cinema. I speifically remember the bit at the end where Quirell is crumbling and there's fire everywhere and it's all going down. :P

I think it's really interesting that I have so many memories that are special to me, which surround Harry Potter and I was wondering if anyone else had some as well.

Oh my goodnes, that is, like, the cutest thing I ever heard. =P
My first memory is of me when I was about 5 being read the first Harry Potter. I'm lying next to my mom, dreading this horrendously long book with no pictures and then suddenly being enthralled by the first chapter. It was one of those "This is it" moments.

Also, to all who say "the first chapter is boring" clearly have no sense of irony and subtext.
I used to find the opening chapters dragged, as I got older I began to appreciate them more though. I love them now, some of my favourite sections of the books happen outside of hogwarts.
my first memory is when I cried to my mum that I was stupid and couldn't read, because my older brother was reading "big books" like harry potter. i was 4 at this point, I think.
Okay so I think I was in about third or fourth grade. It was when I first began reading the Sorcerers Stone. It was during school, but at some kind of break period I believe. I was eating an egg salad sandwich. I began to walk back to my desk with it and I dropped some egg salad out of the sandwich on top of a girls head. I'm not totally sure if this was on purpose or not, but that's beside the point. She was really angry and I was later teased by a boy in my class about dropping food on her head and reading Harry Potter.
I had the book given to me when I was 8 years old in Florida on vacation. I didn't want to read it because it seemed silly. When I heard there was going to be a movie I wanted to see it, but my mom said she would not take me to see the movie until I read the book. So I did and I am so glad I did because now it is one of my favorite series and it has changed my life forever!
When we were in Kindergarten(?) my mother read the first book aloud to my brother and me, a chapter a night, before bed.

Also, the first time we saw SS in theaters my mom shushed me when I exclaimed something along the lines of "Evil wizard!" when Scabbers made his first appearence.
your comment when you were younger about scabbers is made of win :D
I remember getting the first Harry Potter book at a Scholastic book fair at school, since they publish it along with Raincoast in Canada, and my sister said something about how it was stupid. She read it after me and turned into a Potter fan as well. I also named a cat Harry, after HP and as a double-entendre since he was a long haired fellah.
My earliest memory is of my whole family sitting on the floor, surrounding my dad who was reading it aloud to us. We were all so into it :D
My first Harry Potter memory was when I was six or seven and reading through the series,or the beginning of the series anyway, for the first time. My teacher at the time told my parents at interviews that I was miles ahead of the class in reading ability. She then gave me the lead in the Christmas play because I was the best at reading/memorizing :)
My dad reading me the first book with voices and everything. I remember it so well because, when I saw the first movie with him, Hagrids voice reminded me so much of the voice my dad would do for Hagrid!
