Nerdfighters

LAST DAY TO VOTE (1/15). VOTING CLOSES AT 11:59 PM Central European Time

***Formerly titled "Shawn to Davos: Third Time's a Charm?"***

If anyone remembers, Nerdfighters tried hard last year to get Shawn to Davos. Despite admirable attempts and hard work on everyone's part, Shawn was not selected :(

HOWEVER

Shawn is a finalist for this years selection! You can go to Youtube and vote for him (his video it titled "A Message to Davos")! And check out his Davos video, too [also, this blog is interesting].

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Shawn, he is an extraordinarily awesome Nerdfighter who runs the UnculturedProject channel on Youtube, and has set forth to combat poverty.

Davos is a city in Switzerland, where the World Economic Forum resides. The WEF is a not-for-profit organization committed to bringing together business and world leaders to tackle global issues that are of interest to economic development and social progress.

WEF has organized the Davos Debates, where world leaders get together and pitch ideas about global issues that need to be solved. WEF has given a member from the Youtube community a chance to attend the Davos Debates.

With our support, we may be able to help Shawn get to Davos, something he has been passionate about going to for three years now.

EDIT: While I'd really like to see Shawn go to Davos, the other four finalists have very pressing topics that also need to be addressed immediately by the world; watch the other videos, and if one of the other contestants is propagating a cause that's closer to your heart, then vote for them.

Edit2: You get "as cookie" for bumping. replying.

have you any idea how many people this thread has reached, and subsequently, how many votes it has created?

because i didnt find it in the forums, i used the search bar to search for "unculturedproject davos", and since i wouldnt have seen this without knowing about it already, other people may have missed it as well. need to get publicising it!
Oh darling, I've been trying. I have the tags "UncultuedProject" and "Davos", I've tweeted this, Facebook linked it, Tumblr'd it, bumped it, changed the title to see if I can lewer in people with promises of virtual baked goods.

It hasn't reached many outside of the 100+ I have e-mailed on the Ning, mostly because people have a knack for engaging in emotionally or politically charged threads or candy threads (which isn't a bad thing). Or the title of the thread isn't catchy enough (just a theory I have).

I don't have the tools to measure how many votes or people this thread has reached, but I can tell you not nearly as many Shawn has reached on Twitter, nor as many people it has reached on the UnculturedProject Facebook group. Sadly, at any given time, less than .3% of the Nerdfighter population is on (the most amount of people I've ever seen on is around 100 [EDIT: and less than half of those 100 are "regulars"]), and only a handful of those .3% will click into this thread (because one may not find eBaked goods as nearly interesting as another thread). So there's no way that this thread will actually reach an effective amount of people as compared to how many people Twitter, Facebook or Tumblr will reach.

I knew creating this thread--considering last year the thread created by Gabrielle harnessed about this much attention too--wouldn't catch too many people's eyes. Slightly futile, yes, but I had this hope that maybe this year we could somehow get the attention of more people.

I've tried all that I can think of to harness attention to this thread and to Shawn's video; I am definitely open to suggestions as to how to spread the word.
