What political beliefs do you have and why do you have them? I'm interested to see the left to right ratio and how many people believe what they do because their parents believe it. I happen to be a "Left-Wing Libertarian". Or that's how I label myself anyway. I have very liberal views on things like abortion, war, and the environment...but on the other hand my economic views tend to be that of free trade and trusting in the free market. Really, I want to see everyone argue over this...I find it funny. Thanks for your input.

My views seem very close to your own.

I list my views on Facebook as: Very Liberal, Anarchist, Technocrat, Classical Liberal, Libertarian Socialist, Australian Sex Party

When it comes to American political parties, I prefer the Democrats out of the two big ones, but I tend to find more agreement with such parties as the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Socialist Party.

The party whose platform I find most palatable is the Australian Sex Party (Yes, that's a real political party with an excellent platform, look them up).
Australian Sex Party ... wow the is awesome lol i am curious about their platform? sex for all?
Here's their platform:

bring about the establishment of a truly national classification scheme which includes a uniform non-violent erotica rating for explicit adult material for all jurisdictions and through all media including the Internet and computer games.
To overturn mandatory ISP filtering of the Internet and return Internet censorship to parents and individuals.
To bring about the development of a national sex education curriculum for secondary schools as a first step in preventing the sexualisation of children.
To enact national anti discrimination laws which make it illegal to unfairly discriminate against people or companies on the basis of job, occupation, profession or calling.
To hold a referendum to create mandatory equal numbers of women in the Senate and State Upper Houses. Note: This is the only item on the platform with which I disagree as of now.
To enact national pregnancy termination laws along the same lines as divorce law — which allow for legal, no-fault and guilt-free processes for women seeking termination.
The listing of Viagra, Cialis and other drugs used to treat sexual dysfunction, on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.
To create total equal rights in all areas of the law for gay, lesbian and transsexual couples.
Ensure that the introduction of paid maternity leave is fair and equitable for small businesses.
Abolish sex slavery and sexual servitude by introducing non morality-based immigration policies that allow bona-fide sex workers to work legally in Australia.
Overturn racist laws that ban Aboriginal people from possessing erotic and sexual media in the Northern Territory.
Ensure the sexual rights and freedoms of the disabled and elderly in institutions.
Convene a Royal Commission into child sex abuse in the nation’s religious institutions.
Develop global approaches to tackling child pornography which focus on production of the material rather than its distribution.
Overturn restrictions on aid to overseas family planning organisations that reference abortion.
that is actually an amazing platform. Many of those points would ensure more equality then what is now which I guess is the point of them O.o lol But as for the one that you disagree with I can understand why, it is slightly drastic and maybe not truely representative. However coming from Canada I know the importance of have females in parliament. There is a severe lack of Women with power in Canada (only about 22% of the seats are held by women, most of those being backbenchers), I think it is important to have equal representation in that way. I know a lot of women are scared out of politics here or are intimdated and it is a huge problem. I however do not know what the best solution to said problem would be.
I agree that it's a problem, but we should try to solve it through a variety of grassroots voluntary strategies to get more women involved in politics rather than through a mandate.
Ya mandating seats doesn't seem like a very effective way to get more involvement, but i am curious as how grassroot programs would help solve the problem. Would it be through awareness or providing support and guidance? I am very curious lol.
Well, form voluntary associations of politically inclined women. Form PACs that specifically support female candidates. Start educational programs for females in politics. There are plenty of ways to get more women in political power without relying on any government intervention or subversion of democracy.
Interesting. I have never thought of grassroots programs or NGOs tackling problems like this though it is a good idea. Usually they concentrate on more global issues or atleast the ones I have encountered.
Exactly.
Nathan... how can you... how... (brain hurting)...

Libertarian AND socialist? What!?

Well, my core issues are not economic, but rather concern my strong support for abolishing the War on Drugs, promoting greater sexual freedom, removing bigotry from government, dissolving the military industrial complex and American imperialism, and generally expanding civil liberties. Both libertarians and democratic socialists tend to agree with me on these.

Furthermore, when I do hold strong opinions about economic issues, my concern is with the prevalence of the corporate welfare state, the prime example of which now is the bailout, and another of which is war profiteering. Rather than having free market capitalism, we operate a neo-mercantilist or plutocratic system in many respects. I support dismantling such forms of plutocracy, as do both libertarians and socialists.

As for the simultaneity of libertarianism and socialism, that generally concerns achieving socialist goals through systems of private charity, trade unions, industrial unions, workers collectives, and various other systems that increase the power of the workers in relations with their bosses without the intervention of the state.
