Nerdfighters

According to this article, this article, and this article (at least those), in April youtube is going to be segregating actual users from the "premium videos" made by television corporations and movie studios, and focus on this professional content, much in the style of Hulu.com. The reasoning behind this seems to be that Google can't generate the kind of revenue with ads on youtube that even much smaller sites like Hulu can with professional video content.
The impact of this for us is that people with very few subscribers (like many of us), or channels that may have many subscribers but are without professional/corporate ties/quality (the vlogbrothers, the fiveawesomegirls, nerimon, charlie is--, et cetera) will be back seated and forgotten. The likelihood is that the separation between user-created and professional-created videos will have an effect of drawing people away from user-created videos and toward revenue-generating videos. User-created videos will likely become harder to find among the "premium content". I don't know how this will sound to you, but do you know what this means to me? NO MORE NEW NERDFIGHTERS! Or at least far fewer!
What are we going to do about this? Part of me wants to stay on youtube after this happens and try to keep the user-created spirit alive, and part of me wants to sort of resign in protest.

I agree with this totally, I mean, I like improvements on some things but for these sort of changes which will not benefit what really makes youtube sucks -_-"

That's the thing: YouTube is broke

They're owned by Google, the largest advertising company in the world. There is no shortage of money with them.

That doesn't mean that they want to lose money on one wing just because another is raking it in.

Oh no... but I think the small, personal channels would still thrive... I wouldn't be interested in the big time ones. That's not what youtube is for!

it's bad enough i cant get to videos as it is because they are not available in my country. If I can watch japanese shows on high quality, or listen to live streams of finnish music, then why do they have a problem? Then you get the fact that half of the videos had copyrighted music on videos that were removed, or people having to produce the rights for thier own band to upload it's music... YouTube is dying! I'm hoping I can watch some of the vlogbrothers / brotherhood 2.0 / nerdfighter videos before it gets to the point that i'll never catch up... I only found them a couple of weeks ago!!!
Yes, I am ashamed of myself - I'm trying to make up for it :-|

Hmm, maybe it's time the Green brothers had a little talk with the Peeps Factory.
