Group Picture Game

Every so often, I will change the group picture to something of significance that happened 20 years ago, to date. The idea of this discussion is for you awesome nerdfighters to try and figure out solely from the picture, what that something was.

In commemoration of the group's birth, however. The first picture, I will give you.

Thursday, April 30, 2009.
Twenty years ago today, film director Sergio Leone died at the age of 60.

dang it there goes my answer, I was thinking Mel Blanc the voice of Bugs Bunny (he died in '89 but I don't think in May) hmm....

I'll give you guys a couple of cryptic hints because the picture is kind of misleading.

Hint #1: The picture may be of a bunny, but the event has nothing to do with bunnies. It is merely chance that the picture featured a bunny.
Hint #2: The second half of the last word in Nate Pez's first guess for this week's picture is also the second half of a proper name that is a key word in the solution to this week's puzzle. :P

I don't live in new york, but I'm pretty sure you wait 3 days and all Subway cars get Graffittied.

I could imagine an editor walking through the offices of NYT yelling "has anyone got a story!"
"I have the last Vandalized Graffiti Subway car being retired."
"f*** that will have to do."

Was there really nothing else going on that day that they could run with? I would've just told the printers to give there guys the day off.

So the new picture is Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, and the day 31st May 1989 which has got to be about right.

Anyone else know anything special about this movie?

The current picture is the movie poster for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, only one of the best movies ever! Is the release of the movie itself the significant event?
