My favorite reason for Twilight suckage is that when Edward leaves, Bella freakin' jumps off a cliff. . . enough said

I despise Twilight for a number of reasons, not least of which are:

1) the unending streams of toxic relationships

2) shallow and flat characters

3) a thoroughly unlikeable protagonist

4) equally thoroughly unlikeable love interests (or should I say lust interests because it is very clear that Bella is incapable of loving anyone)

5) the twisting and mangling of vampire characterization and physiology

6) utter disregard for internal canon

7) an egocentric author who is convinced of her own literary superiority and never SHUTS UP about it

8) plots that depend on all the characters behaving like they have the combined brain capacity of pillow lint  

9) literary references that only show the author's shallow and insipid understanding of said literature, and

10) the constant denigration of human values, lives, and rights, particularly in how humans are viewed as utterly worthless AND THE PROTAGONIST COMPLETELY AGREES

...That felt cathartic.

I generally don't hate things, but Twilight is the one exception. The fact that it mutilates vampires into the foul mess that now encompasses literature aside, the abusive and downright stalker-like relationships depicted in the story are absolutely ridiculous. The women's dependence on men creates poor role models for the young girls who may be reading it. Not to mention the fact that it depicts Romeo and Juliet as a healthy, successful relationship, or that the main character purposely endangers herself in order to get a guy's attention after being near comatose for weeks after he dumps her.

I don't like twilight because it features a co-dependent abusive relationship as something positive

Also, disliking Twilight absolutely decreases world suck, and because I'm an anti-Twilight nerd, I will now tell you why I think so.

I read Twilight for the first time just before it's popularity exploded, and I actually rather liked it. It wasn't greatly written, and was full to bursting point with subtly abusive relationships, but it was a bit of easy-to-read, mindless, fun "romantic" entertainment. And there are a helluva lot if books out there like that. So why hate on Twilight?

My main problem is with it's massive popularity. I would feel a lot better about the series if it had never blown up the way it did. Because it's seemingly gargantuan popularity not only points to the fact that society at large will accept and even promote extreme gender inequality and emotionally abusive relationships, it's extreme popularity among young teenagers also risks perpetuating the societal acceptance of these problems.

So, being an anti-Twilight nerd decreases world suck because for every one of us, there is one less person out there buying into some of the more negative aspects of our society.

Ha ha, i feel so at home! Twilight killed vampire fiction. Aslo Bella IS Stephanie- bloody- meyer. Every single description of Bella there is in the book is just stephenie meyer describing herself, it's ridiculous.

I think it's totally awesome that there is a place for anti-twilight nerds, because it is totally possible to be a nerd about disliking Twilight. It's actually an incredibly complex issue, and instead of just disliking it because it is "too mainstream" or "it's so stupid" whatever, an anti-Twilight nerd has very complex and intellectual reasons for their dislike. I'm definitely an anti-Twilight nerd.
