For those among us who prefer life without a deity. Theists are welcome to pop in as well, we'll do our best to answer any questions you might have. Remember, though: this is a group meant for discussion and meaningful debate, not flaming or attacks.

Comment by Mazebook on August 30, 2012 at 5:11pm I am an Athiest, and it makes me happy that through all this randomness and hostility in the Universe, something as beautiful as the concept of a kiss is possible. The absence of a deity makes the horrors of this world much more understandable and the wonderful things more powerful.
Comment by Emmeline R. on August 28, 2012 at 1:37pm I'm an athiest, but sometimes I'm a Pastafarian (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster) if I'm feeling sarcastic and want to annoy some religious people.
Comment by Henry Bowen on August 27, 2012 at 2:53pm As an atheist, I find it easier to take an impartial view to the major issues in life. I am not clouded by a belief or a faith (although that's an interesting philosophical question: is atheism a faith?)
I do enjoy discussing my ideals and ethos with my friends who are theists and atheists alike. It is wrong to discriminate against the religious or the non-religious; we should listen to everyone!

Comment by Maddi on July 18, 2012 at 7:05pm Personally I get quite a sense of freedom from being an atheist - my life is mine, as are my choices and my beliefs/thoughts. While I have nothing against anyone who chooses to believe in a religion, I still feel that the idea of a God who is always there to judge and control irks me. I have my own moral compass, and it serves me just fine.
Comment by CD on May 20, 2012 at 8:53am That's really a matter of perspective. Some people need that surity, call it god of the gaps if you will, but some people need the loose ends tied up and like the twine just where it is. Others don't mind the twine rolling around the floor and even enjoy chasing it. Either way, it's still a ball of twine :)
Comment by Christian gentry on May 16, 2012 at 2:46pm I agree with Billy that we will never know but I would rather put my faith in a deity then no know.
Comment by Billy Markowitz on May 16, 2012 at 1:42pm I have been getting quite the email notifications from this thread. I am very surprised from the civility of this argument. I have considered both arguments and I would like to say this. We do not know the catalyst for the big bang. Without evidence we may never know. I do not think we should just assume god did it because there is no evidence for that. Until new evidence arises for either sides I think we can conclude this argument officially over
Comment by Zach Minute on May 15, 2012 at 9:19pm May I ask what your basis of argument is for God being the catalyst? Couldn't any supernatural force ever imagined just as easily work as an explanation? I mean, what if we're all a part of the matrix?
My point here is this: Once we've agreed on the facts and even on the most likely fringe aspects of the truth, the rest seems to be blind speculation. The mere fact that specific speculations are passed down the generations through stories would hardly seem to lay credence to the truth of such stories. Why choose from the speculations? Why not wait for better information?
Comment by Christian gentry on May 15, 2012 at 8:35pm Thats what I would argue, well once again i would like to thank you for being suprisingly civil nearly all atheists I have met that new i was a theist were quite militant.
