I'm happy for you, and I'm going to let you finish, but… Rick Santorum.

"Ladies, a real man doesn't just open your door...

...he opens his bible."

That has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Before Romney spoke, that is.

Hi, folks. I have many friends who are religious and we get on great. However, when I see things like the following:

"Ladies, a real man doesn't just open your door...

...he opens his bible."

I kind of want to vomit.

I've been an atheist for around 3 years now.

I have grown up in a religious family, but I don't hate my family for being religious. In fact, I hate nobody for being religious. One thing I do hate, however, is the ideology behind religion and the huge effect that it has on the whole world! I find it ridiculous that a child with an imaginary friend is perfectly acceptable, yet when an adult mentions something of the sort it's off with the men in white coats to the insane asylum.

However, is the idea of a deity not dissimilar to that of an imaginary friend? No, it isn't. This quote sums up my opinion perfectly; 'Religion. Society's accepted mental illness.'

A few more quotes I like;

'Fools aren't born. They are watered and grown by institutions such as Christianity' Marilyn Manson.

"If God has made us in his image, we have returned him the favor."
-Voltaire

"With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion." - Steven Weinberg

Again I stress the point that I do not dislike those who are religious, just religion it's self, and also, I have become a lot happier since I became an atheist, I don't have to worry about a ghost that gets angry when I do things he says are unacceptable, and I have an extra 2 hours to do something productive on Sundays rather than sit in the shadow of a stained glass window singing and reciting out of a fictional book.

I love debating the idea of religion, simply because the argument for atheism is much, much stronger than that of religion. However, in my experiences, religious people usually come across as quite stubborn which can make debate unenjoyable.

One good thing is, I no longer feel like a minority as an atheist. The number of atheists in this generation is rising, with a positive correlation to the amount of scientific education and the number of atheists. So, strangely, I feel a sense of pride to be part of a growing community of atheists.

I think this song sums up our collective thoughts quite well:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8jIb74ldpg

I am an Athiest, and it makes me happy that through all this randomness and hostility in the Universe, something as beautiful as the concept of a kiss is possible. The absence of a deity makes the horrors of this world much more understandable and the wonderful things more powerful.

I'm an athiest, but sometimes I'm a Pastafarian (Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster) if I'm feeling sarcastic and want to annoy some religious people.

As an atheist, I find it easier to take an impartial view to the major issues in life. I am not clouded by a belief or a faith (although that's an interesting philosophical question: is atheism a faith?)

I do enjoy discussing my ideals and ethos with my friends who are theists and atheists alike. It is wrong to discriminate against the religious or the non-religious; we should listen to everyone!
