My belief on it is that no couple should be married under a religious ceremony wherein that couple does not believe in what that ceremony stands for.

So, I do believe a gay person can also be Christian. I believe God has plans for everyone (Jeremiah 29:11), and if someone identifies as gay, I still believe it applies to them and that God loves them, cherishes them, and considers them his treasured children. We have no right to assume or judge otherwise.

I am against any couple who does not believe in God (or a moral/religious practice) actually having a religious ceremony through a church (or otherwise place of worship). If it is a gay couple - why would they want to be married under the doctrine that most of them assume is full of hate towards them (which it isn't, but certain groups and people are)?

Basically, I think that marriage itself is an institution that has been established in every single culture ever formed (though some for less-savory reasons than others) and is not itself dictated by a single religious sect. However, what an individual church decides to do is up to them - some churches are willing to marry gay couples while others are strongly against it. Some churches require pre-marital classes based on Christian doctrine. This is where the idea of separation of Church and State really is meant - so that the law would not dictate the practices of the Church (i.e. Religious freedom).

In the end, I say let them get married; however, I hope that the beautiful ceremony and reception will reflect the couple as they truly are and not be under false establishments within religious terms.

Nathan - personally, I am not for gay marriage... just like I'm not for any other sin. However, I don't think that people should live together their whole life and not be allowed to visit each other in the hospital or to adopt kids.

I'm for the civil union idea - just modified. I think they should file taxes separate ('cause they wouldn't be married) but they should be allowed to visit one another in the hospital, make decisions when life is threatened, adopt kids, etc. I just personally see marriage to be as much of a religious ceremony as it is secular. Therefore, I want to keep marriage separate.

I have nothing against gay people or their unions nor do I think they're lesser people. I just want the term to be more along its religious connotation than the secular one.

Just my two cents. Does anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?

Just curious, what do you guys think about gay marriage? I mean what it says in the Bible differs from many common opinions today.

When you think about it we shouldn't see anybody as sinners, that's Gods job. We just need to be loving and supporting people.

I wish I could Like comment, because I would like your's Hannah.  I know this is a divisive subject, but I, as a Christian and as a pastor, do not see gays, lesbians, trans-people, or anyone else as evil.  We are all sinners, everyone of us.  Chastity and all of that is still important, but just because a dude likes a dude does not make them evil.  What is important is that you show them the love and compassion that Christ showed us on the Cross.  That is far more important that nit-picking sins.

Please DON'T go looking for any ex-gay ministries.  They are harmful to your sense of self and your faith.  Can I suggest something?  Think about what makes something a sin since Jesus.  The ten commandments are all about not harming others, not being greedy, and being conscious that you're living your life with goodness.  The references in the Bible to "homosexuality" are about rape, abuse of power, or promiscuity.  I'm sure you can see why those things would be an abomination, because they're harmful.  A loving relationship that is about fidelity, honor, and commitment, that is in every way like an opposite sex relationship except for body parts...where is the sin?  Biology?  Biology also says that humans shouldn't fly or even go faster than a 4 minute mile, but even Jesus rode a donkey.  If you feel like you've got a problem with lust, that's one thing, but just because your romantic interests are in people of the same sex, there's no reason to think that you're so much more of a sinner than anyone who falls in love with anyone.
