yesss the crow is already on it!!! awesome. my favorite book of all time ever forever amazingly awesome black and white, contrast, detailed, shadows, angles, emotion, passion, great concept and story, amazing character portrayal, clever dialogue/monologue. i'd say you HAVE to read it if you like graphic novels, but that's just my bias. ^_^ i also agree with the killing joke, watchmen, V for vendetta, and sin city. GREAT comics.

also, 'black hole' is a new comic by charles burns that is great if you like a sort of twisted, sometimes awkward story about maturing into an adult, with all the temptations and experiences of getting older. the art is a little weird, but it's not supposed to be 'beautiful', just like real life isn't supposed to have perfectly shaped lines and curves. anyway, it's a good one and relatively new.

if you like crazy insanity like 'invader zim' you should read SQUEE! and Jhonny the Homocidal Maniac. those are hilarious. you don't need audio or action to have smacking punchlines or hilarium. and it is quite out of the ordinary jokes. gruesome and morbid :)

also, SANDMAN by Neil Gaiman and GOOD artists like Dave McKean, Mike Dringenberg, Marc Hempel, Michael Zulli, and more. that should be up there FOR SURE. and all its spin-offs like Death the High Cost of Living and Death the Time of Your Life and the Books of Magic...etc.
