Yeah you would think by being the FIRST STATE more people would remember it from their middle school social studies classes v.v Ah, well.
Yeah, I had something like that happen to me too - I live about 10 minutes outside of the Chesapeake and was at a restaurant there...in Maryland...10 minutes from my house...and somehow we got on the topic of being out of state and the waiter asked where we were from...and it went something like this...
Us: "We're from Delaware."
Waiter: "Oh, wow!"
Us: *incredulous looks*
Waiter: "Isn't that by California or something?"Us: O.O *facepalm* *headdesk*
I wish people would have a better grasp of geography. I mean, it doesn't have to be for the world, but at least for the country in which you live. (Ack, the preposition almost got me but I caught it >< Bad English major, bad)
