Nerdfighters

So I just read this article about David Yates directing a Doctor Who movie. It basically atated that it would not feature Matt Smith as the Doctor, but would stand as a completely seperate Doctor Who adventure. Here's the article:

"Doctor Who movie set to take some time
"We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years Variety. "It needs quite a radica transformation to take it into the bigger arena." Despite the incredible success of the TV franchise, the Doctor has only appeared in two feature films, the last of which was released way back in 1966 In 2005, a straight to TV movie was In 2005, a straight to TV movie was made starring Patrick McGoohan in his only appearance as the Time Lord. Yates, who directed the Harry Potter movies from the fifth entry, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, to the eighth and final Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, said his Dr Who would not continue on from wherever the current series starring Matt Smith leaves off. "The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time," he said. "(TV writers) Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch." "

So my question, do you think the movie should continue on from the series, or be seperate? My opinion is that it would be good if it continued, but it would be difficult for them to film it unless there is a massive story arc in the movie and series.

OMG YES!! I need more Master in my life

needs to be about early gallifrey wen he stole the tardis.  and yes, lots of the master.  i am a bit terrified because they WILL mess it up.

How about a movie about the Parallel Universe aka "Pete's world"??  about the meta-crisis Doctor?!!  :) about what happened with him and Rose, if he was able to grow a TARDIS with the piece of coral that the Doctor gave them... I would love something like that.

As I said in the group comments, the best thing they could do is to make a movie that is taken place in a time where there isn't much that is well known and that won't impact much on the series, like the filler episodes in Naruto between the end of the Naruto series and the beginning of the Shippuden...

Does that mean that the Doctor they use in the film will be the 12th Doctor?

I don't really want a movie...

I just don't really think it would be all that good, especially if it deviates from the TV series (as movies tend to do).

Imagine, it'll be about the Doctor, a timelord from tatooine going on adventures and exploring the universe in his trusty enterprise with handy dandy sonic hedgehog.

Okay yeah, that sounds like a funny crossover.

But really, television series and books just don't usually do well in the transition from original format to big screen.

What do you think?

As much as I agree with you  I have to say a film on the Time war sounds interesting if they decide to go that path. =)

Oh yeah I completely agree with that! Just, they're talking about using actors other than Matt Smith to portray the eleventh Doctor and other changes that just make me go, "Really? You're going to get a guy other than the one who's already playing the Doctor... to play the Doctor. Before he's regenerated. Why? Just... gah. Why?!"

Really?! Progress the current story line rather than make a motion picture to clear up the ONE thing ALL OF US WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT!?!?!?!?!?!? *regains composure* Sorry.....Bey I agree wit the why do that. Granted I'm not a Smith but but even I know that's wrong.

I actually want to know more about his daughter...wouldn't it be cool if she got a hold on a manipulator thingy like the one River Song has and ended up in the Time War? Maybe the Doctor would HAVE to put everyone in a time lock to save her life or something.....maybe I should write the script to this movie ;). I'm starting to get a Muze!

Go for it! =)

Oh! Oh! I just got an epiphany!

I was watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4s653yQLpoA

Then I remembered the episode "A Good Man Goes to War", and how in the end the Doctor answers Amy's question of who is Dr River Song, by saying something along the lines of: "It's Galifreyan, it takes a while to translate, but the (other language which I can't remember) can be translated..." and then the writing on the napkin turns to River Song.

This got me thinking, and I know there are probably a million and one things wrong with this but on the off chance that this might make sense: What if River Song IS the Doctor? Can a grown Timelord woman regenerate into a baby Timelord male? Is there anything in the original Doctor Who series that would contradict this possibility (I didn't watch the original)? Is there any concurrent proof that the Doctor WAS born in Galifrey? I know this seems far fetched , I'm just throwing ideas around, but is there even the slightest possibility that this could happen?
