So I just read this article about David Yates directing a Doctor Who movie. It basically atated that it would not feature Matt Smith as the Doctor, but would stand as a completely seperate Doctor Who adventure. Here's the article:

"Doctor Who movie set to take some time
"We're looking at writers now. We're going to spend two to three years Variety. "It needs quite a radica transformation to take it into the bigger arena." Despite the incredible success of the TV franchise, the Doctor has only appeared in two feature films, the last of which was released way back in 1966 In 2005, a straight to TV movie was In 2005, a straight to TV movie was made starring Patrick McGoohan in his only appearance as the Time Lord. Yates, who directed the Harry Potter movies from the fifth entry, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, to the eighth and final Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, said his Dr Who would not continue on from wherever the current series starring Matt Smith leaves off. "The notion of the time-travelling Time Lord is such a strong one, because you can express story and drama in any dimension or time," he said. "(TV writers) Russell T Davies and then Steven Moffat have done their own transformations, which were fantastic, but we have to put that aside and start from scratch." "

So my question, do you think the movie should continue on from the series, or be seperate? My opinion is that it would be good if it continued, but it would be difficult for them to film it unless there is a massive story arc in the movie and series.

Oh well you toss the master into the mix on how they get out and it's possible. =) we all know that the master and the doctor are on the same brilliance level.

Concerning the revealing of his name.....I think if they were to do that no more Dr. who ever. because, the silence said: Silence will fall when the question is answered.

To me that says that it will being the end of the series. and hinges everything from the beginning on his name, it pushes every single episode in the past from being about what it has been about to being about his name...in a sense. but hey what do I know i'm not one of the writers. lolz.

That IS true....but then again, last season it was all about the Doctor permanently dying and that it was a fixed point in time and they managed to get out of that. Who knows?

Technically he DID die. lolz.

No he didn't! A robot that looked like him was shot and "died" while he was in it. The writers narrowly made it with that twist. That's what I don't like about these later seasons of this show. During Tennant's time, every time there was some problem, the Doctor would find a solution and I would go: "Oooohhh!!!! That's so genius!!!!! It solves EVERYTHING! Why didn't I think of that!?!?!?". Now, with Matt Smith, the writers keep bringing up problems without fully thinking of the solution and I think: "Eh....that KINDA solves things.....sort of.....sigh...." (notice the use of exclamation points as opposed to dots ;))

The robot was for all intense and purposes the Dr. The information never said anything about it being the REAL him. Yeah, I see your point......stupid loop hole from silly writers.

I think that a movie about the time war would be cool but I would not like if they made to movie sepewrate from the sereis because I would feel like they are trying to rewrite history. However as the movie is still in development and they don't even have a writer for the screenplay it will be at least a few years if not more before any movie is made.

-Winces slightly- Given that the last DW movie almost destroyed the franchise...I'm wary.

I cant find any Movie from 1966, but I have seen the 1996 one and it is an example of what can go wrong when you try to hollywoodise a long running low budget tv cerial.

Which is a shame, the writing is abysmal, and Paul McGann's Doctor takes the brunt of the blame, which I think is unfair. Paul was a brilliant doctor, he was the voice of the doctor in a series of Dr Who radio plays that are wonderful, with genuinly enjoyable and riveting plots, its just a shame they so inexpertly translated it to the screen.

So I am hopeful for something good as they have good writers and producers working on it this time around.

A Doctor Who movie would be terrible. Also, Moffat was quoted saying the BBC have nothing to do with anything about this, and BBC own Doctor Who...

Yeah, I'm with you on this one. The last Doctor Who movie was a horrifying mess. Also, one of the most fun things about DW is the amazingly connected plotline. If it were a short series or a movie, the charm would be lost. The whole fun is in going, "Oh, yeaaaaah!!!! I remember that!!" So yes. It should stay with Moffat and the BBC.
