How River looks has little to do with genetics, she could look like anyone even after being born. I once read in a Doctor Who book from way back that Gallifreyan children could look absolutely nothing like their parents. Also, River (Mel) was black before she was(is?) River. 

 

Also, I thought this episode (being a story oriented episode) was one of the weaker ones. I hated how the feeling of the Doctor actually dying never really set in because they kept repeating that he's to die in a different place/time and that it's non-negotiable. But as always Matt was completely amazing in his role, even though he took a back seat to Amy/River and what seems to be a pseudo-Torchwood.

I agree, I really liked the episode, but i thought it was a little bit rushed, and a ton of things were going on at the same time.  To be honest, it was a bit confusing, I even went back and watched it again!! But I'm really interested in how they're going to build off of their recent discoveries of River...I'm very curious about what they're going to do now!

They're probably going to string out the "lost lovers travelling through time in alternate directions" for a couple episodes (when River comes back) and it will lead to the moment the Silence and River is taken down. Which will be doubly confusing, because if he takes down the silence at almost any point before 1942 (or the events in let's kill hitler) then River was a rogue agent. Any time after that and (mind EXPLODES)

BTW, did anyone else notice that 28 minutes were sort of glossed over? he used the TARDIS but they didn't show where he went, I think they're going to revisit that in another episode. thoughts?

oh jeeze, you're pointing out this i totally didn't even notice, guess I'll have to go back and re-watch it...again XD
but I totally agree, they're definitely going to use the 'lost lovers' thing for a bit...

and i think almost every episode of Doctor Who makes my mind explode...

There are three points over the 7th and 8th series that i REAAALLY want to see. 3 to be exact.

1) River and the Doctor's final meeting, no contest.

2) The Silence. I was totally mind effed when they were revealed to be a religion, i was like WTF? the whole idea expanded throughout the universe. The aliens we saw were basically the ones who couldn't get off the planet. It could be like, Christianity in America. But with the universe.

3) The Doctor's reincarnation, since it's basically the first since Maffot and his psychological style writing may focus more on Amy trying to remember. Rory will always remember because he's a cyborg. But Amy, she has deep rooted feelings for the doctor, he mind-raped her as a kid causing untold trauma to her psyche and I honestly believe if he hadn't have shown up she would have turned to drugs or ended up in a loony bin.

I put WAAAAY too much thought into Doctor Who.

i disagree...you put a wonderful amount of thought into Doctor Who, your points have really been making me think today!! 

1) Obviously this is going to have to be shown at some point, i think it's going to be very sad, but i am definitely looking forward to it!

2) My mind almost imploded when I found out that the silence was a religion, which means that there are more 'silence' somewhere else in the universe!! So if we don't learn out more about the silence in upcoming seasons, I'm going to be pretty ticked off. 

3) I feel immensely bad for Amy.  I know the Doctor didn't leave her alone as a kid on purpose, but i mean, he really did mind-rape her.  And you're right! for all we know Amy could have ended up more worse than she is now! Especially because of that dreaded crack in her wall that would have kept eating and eating at her life if the Doctor hadn't showed up again!

The one moment that i really raged @ doctor who was when he lost the TARDIS during The Big Bang and he used the Vortex Manipulator. he continually changed his own past and future, and I get that there are FIXED points in time, but they have avoided this since the first reincarnation so fanboys don't ask "WHY DOESN"T he just go to the end and find out WHAT HAPPENS?" I got so angry. But again, it was masterful writing so no one really noticed and I can honestly respect that.

I absolutely LOVED The Big Bang!!!! But the doctor's always saying that he can't go back into his own timeline, so yeah, the whole Vortex Manipulator things was a bit confusing, but it was amazing writing anyway! and I don't think the Doctor really WANTS to know what's going to happen at the end...he's just going to wait to get there(:

I think the doctor is going to be trapped somewhere for 200 years. somewhere scary that changes him. Or he's going to be one of the LONGEST incarnations of the doctor with like, 15-30 companions from before River's arc and after Amy. because it's almost 100% that he is going to stay this way for 200 more years (Because the gorgeous Amy Pond can't live that long)

hey now! Don't you underestimate Amy :p
But as much as i LOVE Matt Smith as the doctor, I do feel like he won't be having a billion companions and instead be trapped somewhere, like you say.  But only time will tell! And I'm sure Stephen Moffat will take his time explaining things! XD
