So what do you think about these companions? Sad to see them leave or happy have to have them go? I personally loved Amy and I think she did wonders for the Doctor. Easily my second favorite companion of new who after Donna. Also, on a note I want to say that a lot of people on tumblr have been discussing how 11 has forgotten his past. I don't think thats true though. I look at it this way. 10 regenerated in a pit of angst. He'd loved and lost repeatedly. He'd failed his best friend (Donna), screwed up Martha and lost Rose, the girl he loved. He'd always thought himself different from humans but in the ned he wasn't. From all that loss, and pain, and suffering was born 11. 11 is an Alien Child. He's here to protect the humans, not to get involved. He doesn't discuss the past because he wants to forget. Thats why initially he's al happy go luck puppy dog doctor. Amy was so full of life that the doctor didn't have time to reflect on his losses. However, in the end, he became attached to Amy and Rory, and suddenly he got darker. You can see it in his eyes sometimes. His age, his angst, his sorrow, his past. Thats why he 'leaks' sometimes. And for people who continue to claim that the doctor doesnt remember think about Lets Kill Hitler. "Show me someone I like." The TARDIS shows Rose, Martha, and Donna and then settles on little Amelia because of the intense amount of guilt he felt. That's it in a nutshell. He can't remember because it hurts. Side note, the Doctor leaving Amy and Rory behind after the God Complex was my absolute undoing. I honestly have no clue what I'm going to do with myself after they're gone. (Same thing I said about Jack, and Rose, and Donna, and Tennant.) <--- Doctor Who loves to mess with my emotions.

I'm actually kind of excited to see them go. I always really liked Rory, but Amy just never clicked with me. I was ready for her to go a season ago. I loved Donna though, and I do agree with you there. 11 remembers his past, besides everything you mentioned, he also brought up his experience with the Weeping Angels. He said something along the lines of "I dealt with them once, but that was a long time ago," or something. I'm really excited to see how this new companion is going to shape the Doctor.

i definitely feel like even if the Doctor doesn't bring up the recent past he always does make a reference to like Old Who

He also mentioned Rose Tyler in either The Pandorica Opens or The Big Bang. I can't remember which. It was when he was talking about how Time was not the boss of him.

Sorry! I was wrong. He actually mentions Rose in The Wedding Of River Song.

yeah he said i can help rose tyler with her homework... something along those lines

I have grown more attached to Amy and Rory then any other companion because I have watched all their episodes as they came out, I only started watching with 11. Rose and Donna's leaving scenes were very, very emotional but I hadn't grown as attached to the characters, so I feel like Amy and Rory's departure is going to hit me very hard.

I agree, I think Eleven's character makes perfect sense, he tries to forget about his past, and he has fairytale Amelia Pond to distract him. You can see lots of his dark side as well, I think especially in Neil Gaiman's The Doctor's Wife episode with "Fear me, I've killed them all." and all the stuff about giving him hope and taking it away.... you can't see that episode and say he forgot his past.

When Amy and Rory do leave I will personally be quite sad, because as Allie said I've become attached to them b/c series 5 was the first time I watched a season not just through reruns. Although I know that the nature of the show is that it's supposed to keep changing I still don't want them to leave. I think Amy helped 11 see the light in everything.

Priyanka, that is a beautiful paragraph you put there!

Thus far I am only halfway season 5 and I'm not that into Amy and Rory yet. The doctor is beginning to grow on me but thus far I have not seen things about Amy and Rory that really made me like them. But I think I will be sad to see them go, but Doctor Who has not disappointed me thus far regarding new companions.

I personally loved Amy and Rory. I only really started watching Who properly with Matt Smith so I would say they are my favourite companions. (Although I saw a few Tennant episodes and I loved his relationship with Donna Noble, just genius!)

I completely agree that he doesn't discuss his past because it's too painful for him. Plus the show has to move forward. If he's mentioning Rose and Martha every few seconds then we'd be complaining he was harping on about it too much.

Yes in The God Complex when he left them behind, it was too emotional. I was a wreck!

So I love Amy and Rory but I think it's time for them to go. It's going to be emotional because I am so attached. But they've had their time and I'm excited about the new companion.

I really like Amy and Rory and I'm sad to see them go. And I am very sceptic against Jenna-Louis Coleman (the new companion, who will be introduced in episode 8-ish), though I guess that she probably will be great, or at least good. I really hope she will be an amazing companion.

I shall certainly be sad to see them go. Especially Rory. I think that Rory has been the companion that has grown the most out of any companion. Until last season, Rose was always my favorite companion, but now I think that Rory has surpassed her.
I think that Rory confronts the Doctor with himself. Rory sees the Doctor more clearly than any other of his companions. I will be sad to see them go, but I do think that it is time for a new companion.

I really don't want their ending to be heartbreaking through. :(

I love Amy and Rory and what they've thought the Doctor. And I love those moments when the Doctor shows raw emotion but it reminds us that he'a not invincible and never will be like. Like in Asylum when the Daleks of the Time War awoke and he was trapped against the door, you could see sheer terror on his face.
