Favorite Character(s) and Favorite House

I was surprised to see only two discussion threads up here, so I thought I would go ahead and start by asking the obvious: who is/are your favorite character(s) and why? This can be from the show, the books, or both.

Aside from this, what is your favorite house or clan in the series?

I'd have to say my favorite character is Dany in the books and show. She was mistreated her entire life and made the most out of the situations she was put in. She adapted to an entirely different culture than her own and (with help) stood up to her evil power-hungry brother. She married into a clan whose culture revolves around horses and now she's got dragons. Really, I can go on and on.

I also really like the story of Arya and can't wait to see what her character develops into as the stories go on. She's a kick ass little girl!

I've got two favorite houses: The Starks and the Dothraki - two very opposite families, I suppose, but they both have very interesting ways of living and political interaction.

So what about everyone else?

To be honest, my favorite house (in terms of affection) will always be Stark.  There's this frank integrity in every single member of the family, and their stalwart love of each other and country is touching.  More than anything, though, they're just so very strong in both body and mind.  Arya is my favorite character in terms of that house, (I've only just started book five) but so far, her character is just so damned tough.. and her time in Braavos is SO interesting.

My other favorite house, is, surprisingly the Lannisters. Their family is like watching a train wreck, but far more clever, intriguing and the family dynamic is a HUGE contrast to the Starks.  Cersei and Tyrion are my favorites in this family, partially because it really makes a person wonder how much different they could have turned out if their mother had lived or if they had been part of a more loving family.  I can't wait to read more into what happens to Tyrion in book five.

I don't really have a favorite house; the members of each house are so different from one another that within each house there are characters I enjoy and characters I cannot stand. Take House Stark: On the one hand, Arya's determination and individualism make her, if slightly Mary Sue, at least a fascinating character. On the other hand, Eddard Stark so one dimensionally "honorable" that he upsets the entire empire in his quest to "do the right thing". This same sort of dichotomy happens in almost all the houses.

As for favorite character, hands down Tyrion is my favorite. There are a couple others vying for second (including Arya, of course) but something pretty spectacular would have to happen in the next books to unseat Tyrion in my heart. He is, I think, one of maybe two characters who are honestly trying to make things better for the kingdom not just for themselves or their house.

After reading the books house Martell is my favorite house. Doran knows how to play the game. And even though I doubt any of them will sit on the iron throne they will do well
