Simple question: Who is your favorite Dumbledore, Richard Harris (God rest his soul) or Michael Gambon?
I know there are people on both sides of the fence...

On a side note, when I read the books, I hear Harris' voice in my head when Dumbledore is placid and eccentric, and Gambon's voice when he is threatening. Has anyone else felt similar effects?

Harris, hands down. Gambon is too mean to be Dumbledore. After all, he almost chokes Harry in the Goblet of Fire movie. In my opinion, the movie Dumbledore is already dead.

i agree wholeheartedly! Gambon is not an imposing figure and he yells too much. dumbledore raises his voice, but he never yells. plus, i dont think he's graceful. he flits around like an idiot at times and he ruins the movies for me! Harris was the living embodiment in his movies and i think he understood the character. does Gambon even read the books? i doubt it.

Gambon hasn't read any of the books and he hasn't watched the first 2 HP movies either. GRRRRRRR I really really don't like him... Wish we could get a Resurrection Stone for Harris. He was absolutely perfect.

At first I actually thought Gambon was the better Dumbledore. But now I must say Harris. Gambon just IS way too mean, choking Harry, yelling at the students "DON'T YOU ALL HAVE STUDYING TO DO?!" etc. etc. Dumbledore is supposed to be NICE. Argh. Even though I think none of them is perfect. Harris is too calm and non-weird and Gambon is too mean and scary.

I think I prefer Harris, but as the books progressed they got darker.
And yes Gambon's tone is darker, but it's also agressive. Plus he doesn't have that glint in his eye that Harris had, anyone else know what I mean?

I know exactly what you mean. Harris HAD the Dumbledore vibe!

Completely.

Over all, I like Harris much better as Dumbledore, because Gambon is really angry as Dumbledore. But I do like Michael Gambon for the battle scenes, because he is so intense and I'm just not sure that Richard Harris would have been able to pull it off really well with how he was portraying Dumbledore. I agree with Isabella - they didn't find that balance between the two that was needed.

Yea I think that as well.

i think Richard Harris was a good enough actor that he would have evolved just as the character in the book did. i've no doubt he could have pulled it off.

Richard Harris! When I saw the first movie I thought "Holy s*** the actually have Dumbledore playing himself....Oh, thats an actor." (Not really but that shows how good he was) Yea I hear Harris' voice as well and this is a bit of topic but I hear Ben Stein"s voice when Professor Binns is talking.(If you don't know who Ben Stein is he is the clear eye's guy)
