Yes, that's why she signed J. K. Rowling. To make herself more appealing, because it's hard for a female author to make it big, let alone be as successful as she has. She's the only author in history to ever make 1 Billion dollars just off her books. On top of that she has toys, candy, cards, movies, audio tapes, music soundtracks. I'm sure you get the idea. Then there is the soon to be theme park. She gets a cut from all of that.

Isn't that the same reason she published as J.K. Rowling? That way her name was sexually ambiguous. They really wanted to sell to young boys, and thought that boys wouldn't be interested in a book if a woman wrote it.

the book was named "sorcerer" instead of "philosopher" due to marketing. we all know what a philosopher *is* but not very many people care what a philosopher does, nor do we want to read a book about them. especially not 12 yr. old boys. who the book was aimed at. so they changed the name to "sorcerer" to make it sound exciting!
also, no one knew how wonderful JK Rowling is. sure her publishers had an idea, but every new author is a gamble, and the publishers play to win. so they changed the name for marketability. by the second book she could have called it Harry Potter and the Old Gray Sox if she wanted. her name was marketable by then. if the first book had been GoF (and the story were dramatically different) and the second book was PS, the titles would never have been changed.

I'll list the culture's I know I have in me. Irish, Scottish, English, Dutch, German, Italian, and three different kinds of Indian, Seminole, Cherokee, and Blackfoot.

@Kinz, hmm, maybe we should go to Ireland together, seeing as we both have roots there....rolls eyes....

I'm definitely interested in the scenery there. I'm also interested in the old architecture, and the culture in general. I'm probably going to end up moving to either England or Ireland. Not sure which one yet. I'm so torn between the two. Ireland and it's 40 shades of green, folk lore, friendly people; then there is England, strong roots as well, English scenery is just as beautiful as Ireland, and both places have castles.

I'm gonna buy me a castle one day. Just so when they say "a man's house is his castle." I can go, "yep, sure is." and smile :)

@Roger- I'm a mutt too- English, German, Irish, Danish, French, I think I have a bit of Scottish, and who knows what else. I want to go to Ireland really badly, I have friends in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. I was in Edinburgh for a few days some years ago and there was a wedding at the hotel and the guys were all in traditional kilts. I swooned. Anyway, the scenery in all those places is beautiful. GO THERE.

I want to go to Europe! Alas, all my money is being saved for Florida. *sigh*

The Philosopher's Stone was probably my favourite movie. I really liked when Chris Columbus was the director, he was probably the most "true" to the novels, mind, both Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets were shorter books.

I'm hoping to go to England some time after my book is written. Probably some time this summer. I'm gonna spend a bit in England, Ireland, and possibly Scotland. I have ancestry links in all three places, and then some. Yeah, I know I'm a mutt.

Wine gums would be interesting to try. Might have to get me some when I get over there.

My personal favorite book was Goblet of Fire. Loved the action in it. As far as movie goes, I kind of like the Sorcerer's Stone, and Goblet of Fire.

I'm not sure what the deal is about them naming it Sorcerer's Stone instead of Philosopher's. I know the difference, but then again I'm a NERD.

I love wine gums! I've known what they are since I was, oh, eight. I have a Roald Dahl cookbook (yeah, a cookbook, it says how to make things like toffee apple trees, blackbird pie [or whatever it was that the Twits made], butterscotch, and a ton of stuffs that is mentioned in his books. He had a picture of wine gums in the introduction and a description of them. ^^ I had them in London and they were really good and also we have a World Market store by our house where I get Pocky and crepe mix and they have them there. ^^

@muggle394- My mom had a sabbatical there at the hospital so that's why we went. So she got paid for it. But it's REALLY expensive to live there, especially with the $2/£1 exchange rate that it was then. Things would be the same number (like £10) but with the exchange rate it would be twice as expensive ($20). So that sucked. But still, it's an AMAZING place. We were right across from a Waterstones which was horrible for me because I can't walk by a bookstore without going in and I can't go in without buying something.
