The Harry Potter lexicon (www.hp-lexicon.org) has a section on each of the books that says the differences in slang, I do believe. *checks* Yep, here's the PS/SS one: http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/books/ps/differences-ps.html

I get them fine, but I read a lot of British books and I spent a summer over there in 2008 (although the closest interaction I had with kids my own age in London was at the library when I was talking to a 12-year-old mini-me. She was seriously me at that age, except skinnier and prettier) so I know a lot of the slang. I actually used "flat" and "lift" and "lorry" and such for ages after coming back here without thinking about it.

I've heard that too but I've never really checked for myself. Rumour was that some of the language that Rowling used wouldn't be familiar to Americans so that had to change it. I own the UK versions, and I understand them fine, so I'm not quite sure how valid it is. It'd be really cool to compare though.

I have a box set of paper back 1-6 and then hardback DH, all American. When I get enough money, though, I WILL buy the UK versions. I heard they have different diologue (sp?) or slang, or whatever you want to call it, then the American ones. I think it'd be fun to read those and see.

yeah, i guess that goes for everyone (: you like what you grew up with the best! i mean first time i looked at a copy of a harry potter book i was what, 10? yeah think so. and i thought the cover looked SO MAGICAL! everyone else thought that as well? do you remember the first time seeing the book cover?

milly, originals, hm! dont know! are they different from how they look today? please show me! :D

I'm not sure I'd like the Swedish covers, simply because I'm so used to the American and UK versions. In my opinion the Swedish versions are more childish then the American ones. But, that's my opinion, I have been known to be wrong.

Urgh pet hate and just saw someone do it on the ol' facebook. They were trying to guess the ending of Harry Potter because as they admit they hadn't read the books and say "lol such a harry nerd lol random." You can't call yourself a HP fanatic if you haven't read them!! argh. Okay sorry about that, you may now resume normal chat.

@Roger Hoyt yes, definitely looking forward to the moviebox as well! hp boxes for everyone!

i have swedish editions, one childhood uk edition and one adult uk edition haha. the box im getting is uk adult edition, mostly cause i dont really like the illustrations on the uk versions (iiih, will i be hated now?). the most beautiful illustrations are the swedish ones i think! have you all seen? they're sooo beautiful! so now ehem, excuse me, but i must spam:

philosophers stone, chamber of secrets, prison of azkaban, the goblet of fire, order of the phoenix, half blood prince, deathly hallows! and they've all got glitter on them and yeah, just beautiful! (although i never read them in swedish since they change the names in the book) what do you think of the swedish versions?

hehe btw, currently listening to hank green - this isn't hogwarts! love that song (:

I'm kind of a collector too... I have all the books in Spanish and American English... but I have a thing for book three... I have it in Spanish, American, British and French...
And he I have two American DHs (because my father thought I didn't have it and gave me a copy for Christmas '07) And no Spanish for HBP (Because I hate the translator... she changed Horcruxes for HoRRocruxes, which I think was unnecesary and stupid.)
