The (insert buzzword of choice and add it in) Irish Summer Gathering

I think that it’s almost time that we had another gathering, and the best time for that would be summer. I realise that this is very early to be mentioning a summer gathering, but let me explain.

I don’t want to dictate a date. Obviously if it becomes necessary then I will, instead I want to use the method that we used for the last summer gathering. The last summer gathering had an attendance of about 40, even without the help of the facebook group (http://www.facebook.com/groups/119784041452959/)

At the moment we're looking at the 21st of July (a Saturday). I hope that works for people.

Also, any input and feedback would be appreciated.

As for location, gatherings in general have a long standing tradition of meeting up outside St. Steven’s Green in Dublin. However, for this Nerdfighter one, I think we should meet up outside the park rather than outside the shopping centre. Last time we ended up blocking one of the paths into the centre, something which we should probably avoid. It adds that small level of suck to people’s lives sometimes :p

I’ll keep an eye on all these threads and event pages throughout the next few weeks. We’ll see where we stand then.

As a note to newer people attending, don’t be shy and don’t be afraid. We’re all very accepting people, and you’ll find that within minutes you’ll fit in as if you’re all old friends. Nerdfighters are a very diverse group, so chances are you’ll find someone who you have a common interest with at the very least.

Just wondering what is uaualy done on these gathering type things?

The last few that I've been to we just sat in the Green (we've been lucky with weather), have some spontaneous games etc. Obviously people go for food, but the whole thing is a really relaxed and casual affair. There's never really a serious plan, it just sort of becomes what people want it become. By the way, what date is your birthday, so we'll know to try to avoid that day :p

It's 2nd July but I usualy have my party the month before or after...so I'll be the one avoiding :P

Wouldn't be terrible if the two were on the same day!

Yeah well, we'll try to avoid that. As I said in the main post, I want people to say dates that they can't go so I can organise it so that most people can go, without straight out dictating a date.

I'm relatively new but I'd love to come if that's ok :) I suppose I'm gone for the first two weeks in august so any time after or before that :) x

Of course it's ok! And the date is looking like the 25th of August for this one. Is that ok, because the date is still flexible. It's extremely unlikely to be during the first 2 weeks of August (lucky you :p) because there's aone on in Cork on the 4th of August or the 11th of August (that date has still to be set in stone)

We're looking at July 21st as the date at the moment. If anyone has problems with that, then please let me know. As it stands, however, it looks as if that'll be the date

Hey I'm new here so I'm not sure if I have a right to any input but I'd really like to go. I'm heading off to England on the 21st and won't return until the 7th of August. I think it might be too late to change the date but I'd really appreciate it if you could!

Sorry Leanne. It would be very difficult to change it now. We do have smaller events throughout the year: cinema trips, ice skating or just hanging out etc that are normally kept just directly within the facebook group. However, if you want me to keep you updated on those I can and will.

On the 30th June there's also something called the "gig gathering" which is essentially a concert type thing being run by the admin of the nerdfighter facebook group. Again, if you're interested in that I can get you more details.

Also, there's a gathering in Cork on the 4th or the 11th August,but I don't know if you'd be interested in that.

Is it definitely on the 21st July? I'd love to come but I am only around from the 5th-31st July! I hope I will be able to come :)

Yes it is definitely the 21st. It's too late for any alterations, especially when we have the "gig gathering" on the 30th June and a gathering in Cork on either the 4th or 11th of August
