just wondering, which of John's books did everyone start with? why? and if you like, did you find Nerdfighteria through the books or the books through Nerdfighteria?
i'd actually subscribed to the Vlogbrothers and signed up on here before i finally decided to go ahead and read the books. while i'd heard about Paper Towns and even, of course, caught Johns video in which he reads an early version of the first chapter, i actually started on an Abundance of Katherines. before i had any idea what any of the books were about, the title just interested me.

Permalink Reply by Emma Sky on December 27, 2011 at 11:13am I was one of the people who found the books through the vlog. I bought Paper Towns and checked out An Abundance of Katherines at the same time and read both at once. I am just now finishing Looking for Alaska my favorite so far. I started with those because they were the ones at my library/Half Price Books. Looking for Alaska I had to buy new so that came later.
Permalink Reply by Neha Rahman on December 27, 2011 at 3:38pm I too had joined Nerdfighters without actually reading any John Green books. And my first one was Paper Towns. But the additionally amazing part to that already incredible book was that a nerdfighter sold it to me! (At chapters, the clerk, she was so made of awesome!) Then I got Looking for Alaska as a present for Secret Santa in my school not too long ago. Now I just need all the rest.
Permalink Reply by Neha Rahman on December 27, 2011 at 3:45pm Well, no, he really didn't. We wrote what we wanted as our presents on the whiteboard. Alex, my secret santa, was somewhat of a decepticon? No, not really. But he DID break my snowfort in the fifth grade so I had held a grudge on him. Although, the copy of Looking for Alaska has granted him tentative forgiveness. (It was a really awesome snow fort.)
Permalink Reply by Danno on December 27, 2011 at 3:53pm well not that i'm judging or trying to tell you how to live your life, but i know how much harder it is to decrease worldsuck while i'm spending my energy holding onto a grudge. sorry about your fort though.
My friend got me into Vlogbrothers and I borrowed Paper Towns from her a few months after I started watching. I just wanted to know what te books were about seeing as they're such a huge part of nerdfighteria. And you know, then I found out that John is a frickin amazing author so I read the others! But I haven't read An Abundance of Katherines yet, so I can't wait for that.
Permalink Reply by Elise on February 5, 2012 at 2:16pm The book i first started with was paper towns and i read more john green books (such as looking for alaska) after that but didn't find out about it until will grayson will grayson and i still didn't go on until months later and i ended up signing up yesterday.
My first John Green book was Paper Towns because I had seen people online talking about it and it was on sale at Booksamillion so I decided I'd give it a try.
Permalink Reply by TheGirlWithTheCurls on February 5, 2012 at 3:15pm I was a member of Nerdfighteria for a while when I bought my first book An Abundance of Katherines. There weren't any other Green books in that shop. I read it in about a day, and searched for the others. Did you know that in Scotland it takes forever to find a book unless you buy it online?
Permalink Reply by Danno on February 11, 2012 at 3:57pm will grayson, will grayson is in a lot of ways the most different. don't know if that helps/influences or not.
Permalink Reply by Liz Hunter on March 30, 2012 at 2:41pm The first one I read was Looking for Alaska, even though by that time even TFiOS has already come out (I read that one second). The books introduced my to nerdfighteria... sort of. I read about vlogbrothers on the back flap in all of the books, and was interested, but I never watched any of the videos until John posted a link to one of them in his twitter feed.
