Diagnosed with ADHD as an adult, made sense of a LOT of my life when I finally got the diagnosis. In many ways it's a disability but in many others, it's a gift. Looking forward to connecting with others here! :)

38 year old mom with ADHD and Aspergers, and learning Disabilities ( including dyslexia) Nerd-birther of two nerdfighters 7 yo bronie with sensory integration and auditory processing dysfunction, and my 12 year old daughter who is ADHD high functioning autism with OCD, dyslexia etc. I homeschool them due to their struggles. as of late they are busy playing minecraft and i'm busy trying to find ways to teach them IN minecraft :)

Currently writing a non fiction book for under 20's with ADHD at the same time as writing a non fiction self help book for parents of young children with sensory integration issues ( in autism/adhd/ocd etc)

on generic concerta or my own ADHD and it works much better than the name brand concerta for me with the eating issue.

Aside form that i'm a singer/songwriter, photographer and folk art painter, when I'm not on mom duty.

I'm not legal... XD not recognized by Dr.s or what have you, but Dyslexic all the same. And loving it. 18 still have troubles with B's and D's, on bad days reading with a marker or place-keeper, takes a second to read 5's or 2's on a digital clock and spelling things completely wrong. Though not usually backwards... :S

I have a weird sense of pride in my severe ADHD. It makes me different, and I like being different. The whole memory thing sucks though. I take the highest dose possible of conserta, and I am still unable of cognative activity past 5:30. But thankfully I don't suffer from too many side-effects, I actually eat more on my meds than I do when I'm off them.

If Concerta isn't working for you, there are always other options, Adderal and Dexedrine for instance. I'm on Ritalin now, but I was on Dexedrine at first. Apparently it worked too well and I became so hyperfocused I barely registered my boyfriend's existence enough to talk to him until one day I forgot to take my pills. O_e

I used to take Concerta it drove me up a wall. Hopefully it worka out better for you then it did me.

 

On a side note "oh I forgot about my terrible working memory"this was entirely unintentional, hooray for not proof reading my posts

Yeah ADD! Anyone else on Concerta or Ritalin?
Bleh I'm always losing focus during class, plus the whole not eating side-effect of Concerta kinda sucks too.

oh I forgot about my terrible working memory. Yeah due to the difference between my verbal and writing IQs I tell people all the time that I would happily make a State of the Union Address without prepared script if it meant avoiding a single page of writing, handwriting doubly so.

Ah, William I know exactly what you are talking about! My overall IQ is something around 130 but because of my ADHD the scores are all over the map. For example, my writing IQ is in the 160s but my auditory working memory is in the 40s! It's so bad that I had to get hearing and auditory processing tests because it masks itself as a hearing problem but I actually have better than average hearing and auditory processing.
