Comment by Devan George on Friday I just started a book club at my college, (if you live in NH, US and want to join let me know!) I'm looking for newer books that also could stimulate discussion. Any suggestions? :)
Comment by Ben Davila on Friday I really enjoyed The Long Earth by Terry Pratchett. Has anyone else read it? The sequel is coming out this month and I am excited to het my hands on it.
Comment by Sakshi R. on June 11, 2013 at 8:51pm Dear Sean, I agree that the film adaptation did capture the theme of the book impeccably. I liked Nick and Gatsby's relationship in this movie. It didn't portray him as having a bad case of hero- worship, while also not being a cold analyst. The once scene where Daisy starts crying and talking about how the shirts were so pretty. In the movie, it gave me a perspective I hadn't considered before, that Daisy couldn't express her true feelings, so she simply stated that the shirts were pretty. It was quite interesting. I wasn't a huge fan of the soundtrack, because I felt that the modern day songs taking place, especially during the party weren't representative of the time period. I really liked Leonardo DiCaprio's performance in this, as he manages to capture the many sides of Gatsby's character perfectly.
Comment by Sean (the local time traveler) on June 11, 2013 at 7:05pm Dear Sakshi, I thought it was a very good movie. Personally The Great Gatsby is my favorite classic book and is easily one of my favorite books. I thought the film adaptation was very well done and that it properly captured the theme of the book. I also think they captured the valley of ashes, the yes of god, and Gatsby's parties very well. What are your thoughts?

Comment by Robin Gaivin on June 11, 2013 at 1:00pm Did it annoy anyone else that Peeta's leg wasn't mentioned in the Hunger Games movie? I can't be alone on this one.

Comment by kayla vistosa on June 3, 2013 at 12:22am I just read the lovely Bones and it is written very wonderfully :) I didn't find it depressing at all because it turned out to be hopeful
I just finished "Cutting For Stone" by Abraham Verghese. The novel is the story of a hospital in developing Ethiopia its employees. While it can venture into "Hospital television drama" at times, most of the book is about the unity between science and humanity, and between doctors and patients. I would highly recommend this for summer reading!
