My favorite is Kubuntu. Mainly because I like the KDE desktop.
BackTrack is another good distro. It's great for network security testing.

I have LinuxMint and Ubuntu on an SD Card for my eeepc.
As much as I like Ubuntu and PCLinuxOS2009 for their ease of use, which is really nice when I just want my computer to work my favorite Distro is Slackware because it's what I learned on.
Ubuntu Studio for Audio work + Xubuntu for basic computing : )
Im an Ubutu and Xubuntu Girl. I preferr Ubuntu but for my slower machine (the one I cart about and don't really code with) Xubuntu works just fine.

What, if any, mods have you crazy kids made to your faves? I'm forever on the ubuntu boards looking at the stuff true haxors get up to with linux. So I was just curious.
i love ubuntu 8.4 because it´s just about the only stable distro under vmware.
i also like DSL (damn small linux) although i never use it.....
btw @Rigel314: you can use KDE on ubuntu to ^^
While that's true, it's just easier to start with it pre-installed. I'm liking Gnome more now, though, I'll probable switch soon.
Well Ubuntu is easy install and more basic, Debian and stuff is a bit more advanced but it's harder, so I'd say work your way through distros starting at Ubuntu. You can stay with Ubuntu tho if you like.
Fedora is my favorite by far. I use it for virtually everything I do. However, I have experimented and found that Lubuntu (LXDE Ubuntu) is also to my liking.
I like me my Ultimate Edition 2.3 for Gamers Chem stuff and games ftw
I started with mandrake and got pissed with the rpm thingies (without a manager they are really a pain, and as far as I remember there wasn't one in 2002), so I switched to gentoo. All that compiling isn't my thing to do, so I switched to debian. (Or it was the other way around, I'm not sure.)
After thar there was Ubuntu and I got stuck.
Normally I like a very light system where I can add what I want easily, but Ubuntu is so easy to run, that I got stuck, even if it could be a little bit lighter and it could be easier to do some things, which are only complicated, because they want to help me making no mistakes, but that could be gnome instead og Ubuntu, but I'm to lazy to switch to a windowmanager more suited to my needs.

My favourite is arch, for several reasons:

1. It is stable and bug-free

2. It has the greatest flexibility of any other distro I've seen

3. Pacman is the fastest package manager, ever.

Ubuntu is good, though it's a little too Apple-like sometimes in how it's run. PCLinuxOS is good though it reminds me a lot of Windows due to the KDE usage and its look and feel. Puppy is incredible for its speed. Bodhi just looks amazing.

Each distro has it's ups and downs so you just have to find what decreases your world suck the most. Ubuntu does it for me, for now.
