I'm not Mormon, but I just wanted to say how amazing Mormonism is.
Spiritually, not fundamentally. But I don't like any fundamental faiths. It's just too..by the book. (Pun intended.)

Anyway...
I know some pretty nasty Mormons. Those are the ones that I don't like. And I actually wouldn't like them if they were of any other religion...
But I also know some amazing/awesome Mormons.

And you are all Nerdfighters, so I'm pretty sure that you're all the awesome kind. :)

Hey, there's a Mormon Nerdfighters group! Sweet!
I haven't been on here in so long it's ridiculous, I didn't know there was one of these. (I've been watching the vids on YouTube lately.)

So, hello!

Wow, do we have enough exclamation points or what?

When John mentioned that the guy who went to Burma was a Mormon I was quite apprehensive to what I would hear because it doesn't sound exactly like a smart idea; meaning, it's not a smart idea for anyone to swim somewhere you shouldn't be swimming! I don't think he meant any "offense" so to speak. He was just saying that he was Mormon because that's just what people do.

For example, a year or two ago my dad was reading an article in the newspaper about drinking on college campuses. I'm pretty sure it had something to do w/ UW-Madison because it's quite a party hardy school. The thing is, the article didn't mention the "top drinking schools" or whatever it was, but the author did manage to mention the most "stone cold sober" school, and that one is an exact quote. Fancy that, it's BYU! So why would they not mention the schools w/ the most drinking but then mention the one where no one is inebriated on a regular basis whatsoever? Answer: it's just how the world is.

Hey, I think we should give John the benefit of the doubt on the Burma video thing. Possibly he just mentioned the fact that he was LDS (actually if you look into his history a bit John Yettaw is an extremely a-typical Mormon. Surprise!) because it is a very common thing for people to do in the western culture, especially the news. I find it more pertinent to the story to mention Aung San Suu Kyi's religion, which is Theravada Buddhist, because she is the main character in the story but that information would still be superfluous. I am not sure he thinks people of our faith are nuts but could just be framing his words based on cultural conventions. I might be wrong, I don't have a lot of evidence but I am operating mostly on optimism. Even so, there is no way he would speak at a youth conference. If you have more information on John's feelings about the LDS church I would be interested in hearing about it. DFTBA friends!

Hey, how do I find out how many Nerdfighters are in Utah? I have a couple of friends that are here. I live in Utah Valley right now but I go to school at SUU. Also, if anyone wants to talk about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I am always open to chat. I would really like to have John or Hank come to a state at least bordering Utah. If not though we could always have a get together. By the way, I know probably most of the "Mormon Nerdfighters" aren't in Utah but I don't know of a better place to figure out who is in Utah, sorry.
