Hey Guys,

I just joined, and I wanted to let Nerdfighteria know of a cool opportunity. UJAM is hosting a competition to "rejam" with their technology, an anthem for Amnesty International, written by Hans Zimmer and Lorne Balfe. Then from the top ten voted on by the public Hans Zimmer and Pharrel Williams will choose the winner.

I've done one which you can go vote/like here

But I thought if we used the power of nerdfighteria, the more of us there are in the top ten, the more likely a nerdfighter would get picked. And putting out an inspiring piece of music for Amnesty International would definitely decrease world suck no?

Anyways, just wanted to put it out there. I shall be lurking here more now that I've found you guys.

That's idea.

Personally, I would contend that it's not a dominant chord because there's nothing for it to be dominant of, but that's the whole point.  To him, he was just stacking up dissonances to create an agonizing tension that lets off with less tension, and here we are a couple hundred years later discussing whether it's an altered dominant or a tritone stack.  Pretty effective use of harmony, huh?

ok, so C, Gb, Bb, E ? I would consider that the same chord, but I'm a jazz musician...  So, Wagner is using an altered dominant chord that is usually used for creating tension before a resolution, but he doesn't resolve it, creating a state of permanent tension? cool.

I love intense theory discussions!

Paul, what you spelled is two major thirds a diminished third apart, which was pretty functional before jazz (even used by bach).  The letters are the same, but the spacing is different; some believe any one chord at any permutation of octave dispersal is still the same chord, while others don't, which is one big reason it's still debated.  The biggest reason it's debated, though, is that it doesn't act within functional harmony. Simply put: without I, V just isn't V (especially altered dominant V).
