Nerdfighters

Greetings Programs!

So at the moment this is still mostly just a brain crack idea, but I wanted to get it out there and see if anyone is interested in it before I file it away in the "Yeah that will never happen" drawer. I love the idea of having Nerdfighter Penpals, but for the longest time I have also wanted to learn how to video blog. So I think it would be fun if I could find at least one, possibly more, people to do a video pen pal collaboration that I have dubbed "The PenPal Project."

Essentially it would function in much the same way as the initial Brotherhood 2.0, where we would post videos back and forth to each other on one channel about our lives and things that interest us, as well as asking and answering questions of each other. I think it would be an interesting way of learning about new people and cultures by not only reading about them but by actually seeing and being virtually involved in them.

Ideally I would like at least one or two people (probably max at 5) of around the age of early 20s from different parts of the world or at least different parts of the country to work with. I also think it would be kind of fun if we were all mostly uni students so we can commiserate about studying and discuss how different school is in different places. Once we've decided on who wants to be involved, we can sort out all of the details of scheduling and setting up a proper channel and things like that. So if you're interested, please fill out the little mini questionnaire below and post it in a response to this post.

Note: PLEASE only respond if you are really invested in this idea. This is something I'm very serious in doing, and I want people who aren't going to flake after a few weeks. Thanks!

Name: Nicki

Age: 23

Location: Utah, USA

Uni student?: Yes

I don't care if you have professional equipment or if you'll just be using the webcam on your computer. I just want some interesting people with open minds to talk to about the world and our place in it. And things like Harry Potter and Doctor Who and Nerdfighteria.

DFTBA!

Okay... Then so far the schedule is (correct me if I'm wrong)...

Monday: Katie Bolan

Tuesday: David Zebarah

Wednesday: Nikki-Anne Simpson

Thursday: Amy Colleen Smith

Friday: Open

Saturday: Open

Sunday: Open

Honestly, I don't know how I can help you two. Borrow A laptop from a relative? Or you could borrow a laptop from your college. Purchasing a cheap netbook with webcam capabilities is another option.

Apparently I was misunderstood.  I have a computer.  It's just a desktop, so the only issues would be if I went out of town or lost power (both of which happen a decent amount, but usually not for too lengthy periods).  Although I need to find a Windows CD to reinstall Windows 7 (I have a key, just not a CD and !@#$%^&* Microsoft won't let you download it even if you have a legitimate key) because I'm currently running Linux and I doubt there's a plethora of video editing software available for it.

I just need to get it to a shop and have them fix it, but I had to wait until I got my paycheck before I could to it. I should have it fixed by next week hopefully.

Oh,that's good! I'm glad that you two have it all planned out. ^.^ Hopefuly the vlogs wil remain on schedule.

Anyhoo, I'll continue this conversation later. I'm typing this messge at the local hospital, and it's hard to type with the claspie thing on my finger.

About that hospital thing, don't worry about it. I'm still good for vlogging, I had a combination of heat stroke, and something else the doctors can't pinpoint. Anyhoo, I was released that night, so I must be pretty good to go.

Honestly, I don't think I laptop computer is necessary. Of course, I also haven't ever done vlogging before, and I'm not the leader of this project, either.

The only reason I need my laptop in working condition is because it's the only computer I own, I haven't gotten the money to buy a nice desktop one yet.

I think this is a really awesome idea! I can't wait to see it! :)

I'm glad to hear it. :) I can't wait to do it!

So...Any other kinks need to be worked out? I think it's safe to say that maybe we should go ahead and make the youtube account in advance while we wait for the schedule to finish, and for the equipment necessary.

As for the name of the account, any suggestions? I named some in an earlier post. We have one vote for "Whimsical Frivolity", correct?

I agree that whimsical frivolity is a good name. :)

Make that two votes for "Whimsical Frivolity", then 8D.
