Nerdfighters

okay, i don't know about you guys, but even though i really LOVE to talk,

i get really shy and awkward around people sometimes, and get nervous when i want to say something

i dunno, just thought it would be nice if you guys would share your thoughts/experiences on this... topic :P perhaps if you have any ideas for overcoming social awkwardness, especially in clique-y high schools, that would be nice too :D

ummmm....i guess...im kinda...socially awkward.

but thats ok! every self  respecting nerd is. i do weird stuff and i dont give @#!*% (pardon my french).

i love to talk too. our difference is i talk too much and you talk too little. want to trade lives?

everyone in my school is reading the hunger games. i said to one of my friends that i love the name effie trinket( a character in the book). now everyone calls me effie trinket. its hilarious.

i guess what i'm trying to say is loosen up! find a good friend and start there. then try opening up to her/his friends.

I am extremely shy too. My schools clique but ive always been able to go from group to group. only some though. class groups have pretty much helped me get friends. that and i watch people a lot:P not in a stalker way i just see social trends. just say it. i usually dont think. i go by instincts and what watching has taught me. if you stop and think you'll only get mor enervous.

I know exactly how you feel. I used to be so shy I never spoke to anyone. I've improved a lot, and I can actually be funny, sometimes, now! I agree you should find someone to be friends with. It's what made me come out of my shell. It's a great feeling, having people you feel really comfortable around.

I still get really shy when talking in front of large groups or to girls I like, but I'm working on it! :)

We don't quite have "cliques" in our school, so much as we have just regular groups of people who barely acknowledge the existence of most people outside their own group. It's different, because the groups don't consist of one specific "type" of person. For example, the small group I'm in has a bit of everything. I'm the nerd of the group, but we also have anime kids, goth kids, just plain mental people (my favourite type) and several other little mini-cliques inside our social group. It might sound odd, but it works. :)
I am notorious for always saying the wrong thing. I love to be around people and in fact I am somewhat of an extrovert... I get this uncontrollable need to belong... however, I have no skills at making friends. There is one friend group I would really like to join... (they are all nerds) but I have the unfortunate habit of being a blathering idiot around certain romantic interests.
It's like I have the opposite problem. I am not shy... my outgoing personality makes everyone hate me... and of course my crush has to be in this friend group... and I am too loud to suffer in silence... *sigh* See, this is why I spend an unhealthy amount of time on the Internet.
Omg cassandra, thts exactly like i m! Im always saying the wrong things at the wrong time. At least you hav nerds at ur school. Mine is completely nerdless. Sigh

I'm sure your school has some nerds or at least kindred spirits if you look hard enough.

When I'm around people I hardly know, it's like a vacuum cleaner is forcibly shoved down my throat to suck all the words out.  Except a few escape, so it's like "....fdgfhfd? sfdgfhtgrth! fsdffgf. gfdfghrtfgd gdffgd gdfss vcx..." until I'm mumbling so much you can't hear me.  For the witty person I supposedly am, I just can't seem to say funny icebreakers or, you know, English.  Also, I live in a small town where nerds are quite rare.  It's hard to find things to talk to people about.

Hell yah!
