I don't cosplay at conventions(cause I can't afford to go to one), but I do have an ouran high school uniform I put together and I where it practically any chance I get to dress up.

my first attempt will be from a book, not manga/anime, but I want to at least give it a try. a blade dancer, from the book 'Blade Dancer' by S.L. Viehl. Halloween seems a good time to come out with cosplay *grins*

in december I'm planning a manga/anime program @ work, and I'll make pocky for everyone to 'dip in their favorite coating', discuss series, watch an episode of (don't know what, yet) and everyone can come dressed in their fav costume. Hopefully by then I'll have figured out which one I want.

I don't sew so...
Unless you know you're awsome at pleats (if thats what the skirt is, hard to tell from the pic) I would suggest picking up one from a store (I don't know around where you live, but there is a store up here called "Mariposa" and they seem to always have lots of school girl skirts, shorter though).
Maybe even check out like a Winners or Good WIll/Sally Ann for a pleated skir (if its longer bonus: you can hem it to the length you want).
Its a fairly basic red plaid shouldn't be too hard to find. I hope

The jacket is going to be the hardest part, with the matching vest. Shirt and tie is pretty easy.
Shoes I would suggest even Sally Ann find some men's loafers that fit, thats basically what they are anyway it seems. And blue socks, thats easy.

Good luck! I know its not cheap to sew a jacket and vest, and takes lots of time. The skirt may/may not need to sew, depending on whats out there.

Are you looking at doing a home-made costume or purchasing one online?
Because the simplicity vs complication factor play big into either suggestion, but in a different way (making vs $$).
Also, are you looking at playing a boy or girl? Willing to wear a wig or not? WIlling to die/change hair or not? Looking at playing a character you like or character you look like?

Hope these questions help narrow down some things ^_^;

I'm not very good at suggesting costumes but, if you find one that you like, you can just post a link to a picture here or something and I'll help as much as I can. :)

What series do you like? If you like Death Note, L is a really easy costume to start with.
