Nerdfighters

I've tried to analyze why it is that I am completely nocturnal (I am on EST) and what I have come up with is this, and I'll do it list style like John. Today's reply comes to you in five parts:

1. Quiet, dead peaceful quiet. My house was so loud growing up, people screaming at each other all of the time, that I could never get anything done during the day, I wouldn't start actually doing anything until after my parents went to bed and then I could actually start working on home work or what ever project I was doing. During the summer when my parents woke up that was my cue to go to bed.

2. The heat. I grew up in the Caribbean so during the day it was really hot and really humid. At the night the temperatures had cooled off to a more bearable condition.

3. I am self conscious. I prefer not to have people around when ever I am working on anything. I can't type with people behind my shoulder, I can't do any sort of project or be creative at all.

4. I really am nocturnal. I have to have light to sleep, if I do sleep at night then I have to have a light on. I think I just need things to stare at to fall asleep. If you turn off the light my brain goes Oh Hai! and with an absence of things to idly stare at starts thinking. And then three hours later I'll give up on the trying to save electricity thing and turn a light back on so I can fall asleep.

5. It might just be nature. Instead of all of the reasons that Iisted (nurture) it might just be that we are people are naturally more creative at night, nocturnal people seem to be the creative nerd types. If you'll allow me to be a hippie for a moment - plants, animals and character are ripened by the sun, but minds and creativity are ripened by the moon.

Actually wait, nevermind, that sounds effing ridiculous. Scratch that last bit. Well, I'll leave it there for everyone to laugh at but, Trelawney isn't a good look for me.

So why are you nocturnal? Does anyone else have any ideas?

You have some good theories. I personally have no idea why I am nocturnal. I guess it just turned into a habit or something, because even when i was like, 5, I would stay up to around midnight (very late for a 5 year old). It also might be bacause i think better at night. I doesn't have anything to do with self consciousness, as I do all my work in my room, but ideas just come to me better at night. Strange...
Mine's easy to figure out. I have a day job at a cell phone store and a night one as a photographer at night clubs. Last year (i.e. before the economy got bad) I used to work four or five nights a week. That means actually working until about four in the morning. My body just adjusted to sleeping a few hours whenever I could. Usually a nap after my day job and as many hours as I could after the night one. Even though I don't work as much at night I've still pretty much stuck to that. It is easier to stay the same everyday instead of trying to change my sleep schedule just for Friday and Saturday.
I'm just a night person. Mornings aren't for me x.x
I write better at night. I'll try to start during the day, but the words don't start flowing until after midnight. THis means my writing is stunted during the school year.
I just don't think to go to bed. My family nags me during the day. It's much easier to do the things I want to do when they aren't awake to bug me.
Well you see I just keep Reading and unless what I'm reading is bad or boring I just continue on. The problem is once I finally find a good place to take a break I look up at the clock and realize how late it is! So then I figure that the night is mostly gone any who so why try and catch up with it now by sleeping... but I do agree that no one is really suitable for the over grown insect look that Prof. Trelawney so shamelessly sports so I really ought to set a bed alarm for 2:30 or something.
Hmmm at this point I may as well go watch the Sunrise...
I actually liked your point 5. It wasn't ridiculous, it was really insightful!

I'm nocturnal because:
- I procrastinate like CRAZY! Sometimes I don't do homework until like 4 A.M.
- I watch YouTube far too much, and I never want to stop. So I don't.
- I like to sleep during the day. I don't know why, but night time just makes more sense to be awake for me. lol
idk im just more awake when i gets to be around 12 or 1..
I must have some strangely messed up perception of time and I'm obviously under the impression that I don't need to sleep. I will literally stay up til around midnight to 2 AM either talking to my friends online, texting my friends cause my computer's off, writing, or watching lame latenight talk shows like Jimmy Fallon's new one. Ya know, I think the sleep deprivation makes those shows funnier. Then, I'll often get up at 6 or 7 o'clock and go off to work like nothing happened. I've been this way for about 4 or 5 years now and I really don't mind it. My life's adjusted and I have a severe coffee addiction. Oh, and I mostly drink a whole lot of Cranberry-Raspberry juice. That stuff is amazing. Have you people tried it? It will keep you up all night for sure!
FYI, in case you all didn't know, which I'm sure some of you do know, Cranberry Juice is great for removing plague in arteries. Hint....greatly reduces chances of having a heart attack from clogged arteries.
Number two is definitely a big one for me. I live in southwest Florida. It's so flippin' hotttttt~ :C

Also I agree with the majority of every one else, the creative juices just start flowin' after midnight, and it's just so much easier to get everything done while everyone else is asleep. I's so nice and quiet too, and I get the run of the house as long as I'm quiet. It's so niceeee.
My parents hate it when I sleep in all day though, haha.
Well, it's hard to explain but I just feel more energized and focused at night. Although it may have something to do with always going to sleep late, then not sleeping as much as I should and my dear siestas (<3), it's hard to change the cycle now. I still stay up till late even without napping thou, guess I just got used to it.

There's also the fact that I'm a chronic procastinator (:p) and thus make all possible attemps to avoid my duties until, that is, it's 3am of the day the assigment has to be turned in... just about 90% of my english lit. work was 1 day late this year. But it's not truly my fault is it? It's just so easy to get entertained with whatever! :x

On a side note: it's 2:45am here and I still have to pack my stuff as I'm leaving to London tomorr... today! :D
