Replying to R.A; if you like 'real life' anime, then go for Durarara!! (some supernatural elements, but minimal) or FLCL. If you prefer sci-fi anime, the Steins;Gate is imperative. For something supernatural, then perhaps Black Rock Shooter or D.Gray-man.

Oh yes, I almost forgot. My first ever exposure to anything anime, was back when I was a kid--Voltron. Not my favorite, but seeing people cosplay Voltron brings back memories, and either gets me to smile or makes me laugh, or both! :D

I saw the first episode of Fairy Tale, and enjoyed it, but haven't had time to watch more. I also really like Wagaya no Oinari-sama (Our Home's Fox Deity). Kuugen Tenko is awesome! :D  I just recently marathoned all the episodes of Sands of Destruction (before Netflix took it off--bad Netflix!), and also enjoyed that. And then, I can't NOT mention Hayao Miyazaki. Personal faves include Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, Castle in the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle. I watched Nausicaa, and it was excellent, but it was also pretty depressing (especially the part about her father). Least favorite was probably Princess Mononoke. Recently, I caught part of Arrietty, but couldn't watch it all, so I'll have to look it up again. What I saw, I liked, though! ^_^
