Jamie that happened in the Doctor Who episode Big Bang. The doctor traveled back in time and gave Rory his Sonic Screwdriver so Rory could release him from the Pandorica.

I quite enjoy the bootstrap paradox, where someone gets out of a situation by their future self travelling back in time to rescue them, whereas they'd normally not be able to escape, and hence their future self wouldn't exist to rescue them.
