Mark, I feel life doesn't require a universal purpose. What matters is what you set your own goals of your life to be. Those that society sets need not be met, nor those the universe requires, but I think that on your deathbed, you wish to know that you have fulfilled what you wanted to do with your life.
Perhaps our ability of thought makes us have a purpose. But since our minds aren't equal, so then neither are our goals?
my question is why must life, or existence have meaning?
i argue Robert J. Shields Jr. though we do find joy through suffering we also find joy in our own ways to say that joy is suffering would be incorrect it is also in the atmosphere the people the anticipation joy is everywhere and we cannot experience it untill you have unknowingly given it to someone
Our joy comes at times of suffering for others and others know joy while we suffer so joy is pain/suffering. The only thing that changes is our perspective of the thing.
Awesome new debate. How can we know joy without knowing pain first. can we or can't we? are we or aren't we (knowing joy)? why or why not?
The way I understand: Math does not change. 1+1=2. But, what does that 1 stand for. One apple, One baseball, one cow. That the number stands for is always changing.
The same is true in the higher Math. (X-6)<7. What does the number stand for?
