Oh my GAWD. That was a great one. I just listened to it! Hilarious. "I want to cut these things out with a knife." And the outsourcing friendships. Superb. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

i'm off to check out those link now! CBC has some awesome programming. The films on http://www.nfb.ca are worthy of stalkage. I know I've pimped them before, but I often forget rabbit holes after OD'ing on them for a while. Shocker, I know!

I love living close enough o Canada to get one Canadian TV station and CBC radio.

Gosh Darn Borders....

I really wanted to watch this online at CBC, but alas, though I am close enough to get CBC on television I am not allowed to watch online. Murder of Crows is a very intereting presentation of some studies done on the intelligence of crows and particularly fascinating is their use of tools. A species in new Caledonia (I think) actually makes a hook tool and they have found that in addition to teaching their offspring to recognize faces, they use tools to get tools that get them a desired object. I love David Suzuki.

I love Corvids (obviously - avatar - duh)! I recommend a book called Bird Brains by Candace Savage about the intelligence of Corvids (crows, ravens, jays, nutcrackers, magpies). Also, Made for Each Other, by Ronald (or Roland? Is Roland "Ronald" spelled sideways?) Lanner, about the co-evolution/co-dependence (in an ecological sense) of Nutcrackers and Pines. Clark's Nutcrackers are some of my favorite birds, since they live in the high places of the world, which are some of my favorite places :)

Hah! I was totally thinking of you, NG (well your avatar at least).

Did any of the Gerds catch "The National Parks" ? I only caught a few of them online, but one of them had quite a bit of info about Yosemite and I loved it.

Speaking of high places -- have you been here Hurricane Ridge? We were up there a few weeks ago and they were getting ready for winter. I did a guided hike with a ranger who has been at this park for a looooong time at her depth of knowledge was so impressive and inspiring.

The National Park series was awesome! Shelton is a friend of mine from my Yosemite ranger days - he is amazing, and a totally neat person - smart, funny, extremely talented, yet super down to earth - he's one of my favorite people - so fun to see him on TV!!

I have not been to Hurricane Ridge in Olympic - in fact, I don't think I've ever been to Olympic! It's one of the very few western parks I have yet to visit, but it's certainly on my list! And yes, regarding taking a guided hike - I studied more in Yosemite than I ever did in college - getting to really know a place you love, to learn its history and natural history, its geology and flora and fauna and seasons and stories behind the names... it's so satisfying. And then getting to share that knowledge of both experience and study with others who are just beginning their relationship with that place - oh the joy!

I also heart David Suzuki! And Murder of Crows looks fantastic! Must find time to watch...
