Theories for Series 3

not specifically, an explanation would be required, only because I've seen/heard it before, and simply can't remember. The crisp packet theory being the ones shoved in his (Sherlock's) pockets from earlier in the episode?

It's something about how the crisps in his pocket were really puffy or something and they provided enough cushioning to save him. I think it's totally implausible through. The crisps would certainly be flattened by a full grown man falling from a multiple story building.

I have no set theory, but I do have certain ideas.

The ball, for one. The only outcome for no pulse and it being legitimately Sherlock on the ground. As someone below explained below, a ball under an armpit will make it seem like the person has no pulse. 

I don't think that the cyclist had anything to do with it, nor the new 'earpiece' theory. I believe that the cyclist was just some other inevitable thing that went wrong, because as my family can attest, when something goes wrong, it all goes downhill from there.

It could certainly be someone who looks much like Sherlock. But this doesn't explain anything about the falling from the roof. 

(I shall also mention, that the pictures of filming that that I've seen on Tumblr, looks like it sucked to film. Just the technical aspects of it.)

I still have no theory at all on the actual fall.

Now on to people.

John and Mycroft couldn't have known. No one talks to their therapist, and acts the way he did. Mycroft, a brother who thinks "Caring is not an advantage." doesn't look or feel that form of grief. Mycroft may figure it out (He is a Holmes after all) but at the end of series 2, there is no way he knows.

I agree that I think Molly has something to do with it, as she never appears in the Arthur Conan-Doyle cannon stories. It's a considerable variable in the equation.

I, however, am confident that Mr. Moffat  and Mr. Gatiss will surprise us all. Won't it be fun if one of us is correct in our theories?

I am almost positive that molly had something to do with it. I really want the third season to start right NOW so I can find out. I don't really have any theories, but I do hope he reappears to John the same way he does in the story, The Empty House.

Mofftiss said he won't. They said Sherlock got out too easily, with John just fainting. I personally believe that there will be some punching involved.  Maybe the events leading up to that point will be the same, but that punch needs to happen. Also, I think that Moran will be a part of all 3 episodes.

I really hope that the answers we come up with are not true and that Moffat happens to stun us all. There's the satisfaction of being right but as John said in a Hankgames video that Sherlock isn't meant to be like CSI or The Mentalist, Sherlock is just that smidgen smarter than us. Not impossibly smarter but improbably. While these theories seem plausible, Moffat will hopefully provide us with a simplistically(is that a word?) complicated answer. I don't think he's going to make it like the homeless network distracts John while a net gets taken out of the firetruck. Good theory but I just somehow hope that it's not going to be something like that and that when we find out the only word that will come to our minds is 'genius'.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned this before (so many replies to get through!!) but I reckon Sherlock could have got some help from Irene - If she was able to fake her corpse to the extent that it fooled Sherlock then she could have helped him fake his own. (Hope this makes sense, grammar isn't my strong point!)

I forgot that part when he identified her body! Huh. I guess that theory really is possible!
Not sure about some theories about cloning though, sounds a bit Nolan-Prestige-like, yeah? Who knows. Maybe Moffat's a fan!

I'm thinking maybe it was a clone. In the Baskerville episode, he asked if they could clone humans and she said yes. Maybe he had a clone of himself made for that purpose.

I know I'm crazy but I would like to think that they were both 2 steps ahead. Jim is still alive (some sort of neurotoxin that induces death for a few minutes) , the newspaper headings can attest to this, and Sherlock used a duplicate body provided by Molly and the roof was some sort of initiation. If Sherlock had died on the roof Moriarty would have won, but if he didn't the games had just begun and with a much leveler playing field, both thought to be dead and with no henchmen. I believe that both know each others status and whereabouts and are just beginning the real game of chess, winner takes all.
