VidCon is July 9-11 2010, at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles, CA.

Is this a gathering?
It is a gathering, but it's not your traditional youtube gathering. Instead of just collecting as an aimless mass of awesome, we're going to use this opportunity to grow and strengthen the community with more formal programming. Speeches, concerts, dance parties, panels, demonstrations and more are all on the docket. You can see what we're planning here at the programming page.

Is this a business thing?
Yes and no. Online video is becoming a place where lots of people make money, so we will certainly be discussing that aspect of this community. But really, the conference is about bringing together and highlighting one of the coolest things that has happened to the world in the last few years. We want rich industry people to see that what we're doing might be making money, but it's much more about having a good time. And we hope they won't mind if we rub it in a little.
Why is it so expensive?
I think what you mean is...why is it so cheap? A conference of this kind can easily cost upwards of $300 per day. We've kept the cost down to $40 per day with the help of our excellent sponsors as well as by not paying anybody anything.
The conference costs are going to the rental of the space, food and beverages provided during programming and setting up kickass A/V for presentations and concerts. Otherwise, we couldn't have made this the largest gathering of successful online video makers the world has ever seen.
Are there any more speaking opportunities available?
At this point, we have reached our limit for comped registration and help with travel expenses. However, if you have an exciting idea for programming, be it a demonstration, a talk, a panel or something else, please fill out our speaker inquiry form, and we will get back to you ASAP.
Can I stay offsite?
Absolutely, though we suggest you stay at the Hotel. Being on site will allow you to maximize your fun at VidCon. All you'll have to do while at the conference is get to in from elevators. No commute = way more fun. The Hyatt Century's group rate for the conference of $149 is the lowest rate you'll find in downtown LA. Trust us...we checked.
How did you decide who you would invite as a speaker / why didn't you invite BLANK!!!
YouTube, of course, is an extremely vibrant, exciting, large and growing community. We had to limit ourselves to a certain number of conference guests who we will be featuring as speakers to keep costs down. We know very well that lots of extremely popular, successful and talented YouTubers aren't coming as speakers. We hope that they will attend nonetheless and grace us all with their awesome.
Who's idea was this?
Hank Green, of the Vlogbrothers, couldn't believe it hadn't been done before, and asked his brother if it was a good idea. John thought it was a horrible idea, but decided to do it anyway. In order to prevent exacerbation of already-existing stress ulcers, the brothers hired Mischief Management, a conference planning team, to help.

Ugh I didn't even think to stop following them on twitter. That is were a lot of my extra cash goes so if I stop buying their awesome awesome shirts I might have a chance.*looks in closet full of Threadless shirts* It's not like I really need more shirts.=/
