Summer Gathering 2010

So, the whole 2009 gathering didn't work out. I don't think we gave ourshelves enough time for planning and now the summers almost gone. So let's work on next summer's plans! This way, we have a whole year to plan.

I think from the forum we established that D.C. would be the most convinent/best place to host this gathering.

Q and A about the gathering so far:

Q: Where in D.C. we're going to meet?
A. The Carousel at the mall.

But other than that heres some things we need to decide;

1. What we're going to do? Events, food, exc?
- Museums? The Natural Museum of History is a must, the Air and Space Museum and the National Art Gallery have been mentioned so far.
2. When exactly should the gathering take place?
3. How everyone's going to get there? Will carpools be in order?
4. How much money are you personally willing to spend on this gathering?

I think those are the main things, now discuss! You can do it right below this in the comments.

Aww... I wanna go! Unfortunatly classes start that week so homework is a possibility, plus I have no money... This sucks. Francis/anyone whose going, should take pictures/videos and put them somewhere on the internet where I can see them. That way I can feel like I was there. lol

For those of you interested in Harry Potter related things, the Harry Potter Alliance chapter for Hampton roads will be having a meeting on August 29th at Prince's Books Leaping Lizard cafe. (for some reason I felt like I was pseudo-quoting Rent there...La Vie Boheme?)

Here's the Hampton roads ning event-

And the facebook Event-

I'm cool with any museum, I haven't been there so I don't know all of them, but the one's you guy's have mentioned sound awesome.
Also, Francis I am applauding you for looking into hotels and the metro idea. Thanks!

I like the Museum of Natural History, the Air and Space Museum, and the American Indian Museum personally. The American Indian Museum has a cafe where you can get really really excellent Native American foods from different tribes and locations. The food at the Museum of Natural History isn't bad as well, and it's next to some pretty awesome gift shops.

Also, I might mention, though the distance seems short, it takes ages to walk from the Lincoln memorial to the Smithsonian museums.

You can't drive on the Mall, and the only real way to get to the Smithsonian area is via the metro. I'm going to try and find the parking garage my family usually goes to, because I think it's more convenient for us to all meet at one place. To get to Smithsonian and back shouldn't take more than five dollars (to ride the metro), though you can also buy a day or week pass I believe. I'm currently looking into hotels, the Harrington in particular, which would be cheap to stay at.

I like the Meuseum of Natural History the best, but you could spend a week in it (well, I could).

The Spy Museum is alright. I went to it when I was in 8th grade. But, even then I was kind of bored. So we won't be missing much.

The really cool ones like the Newseum and the Spy museum aren't free though :(
