Advice on Recording

Both as a wizard rocker hopeful and just a music enthusiast, I was wonder if anyone had any advice on recording.

Best cheapest program?

Best cheapest equipment?

I've been using my skype headset to record but I can't change the format from Audacity to mp3 or wav. Any ideas?

You might have already seen this, but a few nerd fighters (Dr noise, FallofAutumndistro and a few others) have a youtube collab channel on which they talk about music recording/playing shows/music stuffs. http://www.youtube.com/user/ourmixtape

I also need help with this...we have two songs, but I'm not good with a camera.
