Alright so, In a zombie 'invasion' would you rather use guns (any kind) and run out of bullets or use a melee weapon?

It's not like there's going to be ammo everywhere like in the video games, I'd say you'd be better off using a baseball bat or... a frying pan. Maybe even a guitar. Because really not everything lasts forever and you can get melee weapons from almost anywhere, you could use a freakin' tree-branch. A TREE BRANCH

Sure guns are a bit easier to use when mowing through the zombies but if you don't have a melee weapon with you and you run out of bullets you are Screwed~

I'll go with melee weapons as my secondary weapon, but if i had to choose one, id go with flame thrower, the ammo is much easier to find, gasoline
(Flame based weapons + Zombies)/(lack of fire departments + abandoned buildings) = cities burned to the ground + destroyed safehouses = massive fail.

Firearm > cord base weapons(crossbow/bow) > Mele > explosives > Bladed weapons > rocks thrown at head > flame based weapons

It's all basic math, really.

This is probably going to piss all the 'sword guys' and mele/flame fanatics, but it's better for them to be pissed off than become zombies because of poorly chosen weapons.
I don't see how bows are worse than swords. Arrows are really hard to make, not in great supply, bows take a while to load, and are a lot harder to aim than a gun without a lot of practice. Zombies are slow, so thus will be easier to hit with a sword, so as long as they don't surround you your fine, and your dead with a bow if your surrounded as well, unless you can beat Robin Hood in a bow fight.
worse than would have been the less than symbol br />
As it is, I used the greater than symbol >

maybe you failed that class. 4>1 3<17
Firearm is better than Cord based is better than mele is better than explosives is better than bladed weapons is better than rocks thrown at head is better than flame based weapons.
used the wrong word, replace worse with better, and the actual statement still makes sense.
To each his own, I suppose.
When engaging highly infectious beings that want to eat/infect me, I prefer to do it from as far away as possible. Ranged weapons are better than close quarters weapons because you canbe further away. Miss with a rifle at 50 meters and you can reset and take another shot; miss with a sword and you're thrown off balance.
Why do you think bladed weapons are so bad? I mean, cutting off a zombie's head with a sword or a machete is a lot quicker and easier than crushing its skull with a baseball bad or a hammer.
I think mele is bad in general, with the close proximity that you have to be, the fatigue from repeatedly swinging an object....

To be effective with a blade requires YEARS of training, this isn't L4D2 where you always hit them in the proper place.

Of course, my years as a turret gunner made me lean more towards firearms.
Im skilled in hand to hand combat (7 years of Tae Kwon Do) and two years and counting with training in the rapier, the broad sword, and the olympic foil, and thats why I'm leaning more towards melee.
You've obviously never seen what an AK buttstock can do to someone's head..
i second spiderboenz. AK buttstock to zombie's head = maximum carnage :D
Simple question with a simple answer; if you rely on either you're going to die. If you think you're rushing into a crowd of zombies with a crowbar or a fire-axe and not one of them is going to bite you, then you're on crack. Similarly, if you think that killing every zombie that gets too close to you with a bullet won't result in you running out of bullets, you're just plain stupid. If you're on foot have a reliable rifle, a reliable melee weapon, a pistol, and a light melee weapon (knife and/or hammer), and of course as much ammo as you can carry. If you're driving then load up your trunk with as many supplies as you can hold (but ALWAYS keep yourself armed).

Also, remember, you are not William Tell. You are not Legolas. You are not Paul Bunyan. You are not Rambo. You are not that sniper from that movie. You are not the last samurai. You are not going to pick up a rifle, or a bow, or an axe, or a sword, and instantly be the master of that weapon.
