- I'm Daniel and like I already stated I love history and actually want to be a history teacher. I'm somewhat addicted to gaming. And I'm a somewhat sportive nerd. I cycle quite a bit and next Summer (2013) I want to do a little tour in England to meet my English nerdfighter friends. :)

- Music: I'm really into the 60s and 70s. I also love Cuban and Brazilian music. My favourite artists would be Ten Years After, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Nelson Angelo e Joyce, Led Zeppelin, the Gorillaz, Empire of the Sun, Nirvana, Rammstein, Jimi Hendrix, Elbow etc etc etc.
Films: LOTR (Lord of the Rings). Star Wars. Love Actually and nearly all other films of Hugh Grant. Chinese comedy-ish films in which Daniel Wu plays.
Books: The Eagle Series, the Demonata Series, Boring books about e.g. the Franco-Prussian War.

Gregory Veldhuizen said… Sotho is very interesting. To be honest in South Africa these days English(and to a lesser extent Afrikaans) is the lingo franca, so languages like Sotho aren't that useful. I mean people really do appriciate it when you try to speak their language, but learning one of the Bantu languages doesn't really give you much bang for the buck in the greater scheme of things. But for someone like me who has an interest in languages, it makes a very nice break from the monotony of the Western Germanic languages I speak, which all more-or-less conform to basic patterns. Like everything is different from a grammatical point of view in Bantu languages, and it really takes a massive mind shift to try to process everything.
And nope, 'n is the indefinite article in Afrikaans, and 'een' is never used in its place.

Amper! Die enigste vout wat jy gemaak het was om "een" in plaas van "'n" te skryf. Vir een of 'n ander rede het dit 'n grammatiese reël geword in Afrikaans om die afkorting van "een" te skryf. Byvoorbeeld: die man het 'n hond. Maar as jy oor die nommer praat gebruik jy 'een'. Byvoorbeeld: Ek het twee eende, maar daai man het een.
Not really...we kinda use multiple languages given the situation(some languages can express certain concepts and ideas better than others). So I speak English, Afrikaans, Dutch and German a little bit every day. I can also speak a little Sotho, but I only try to speak it when I want to impress someone(very few white South Africans can speak an actual native language). I guess languages are my thing haha.
Anyway, I kinda want to improve my Dutch, so maybe we can help each other?

Mijn moeder zijn Limburger, en mijn vader zijn Zuid-Afrikaner(maar hij meer Nederlands als jouw gewone Zuid-Afrikaner want zijn opa is naar Zuid-Afrika van Noord-Holland geimmigreerd).
P.S Nederlands is niet mijn moedertaal(ik spreek gewoonlijk Engels) en ik spreek het niet veel, so ik heb seker een paar voutjes gemaakt. :P

Hallo! Ja ik kan Afrikaans spreken! Het is niet mijn moedertaal maar ik ben redelijk vlot daarmee. (ook: dit bootschap is in Nederlands, niet Afrikaans (ik ben half-Nederlands) haha)
