"I feel that it doesn't answer the question well, because there's an underlying comparison that we want. A cow is fed food for a long time. This it's input energy. A rocket of course uses energy to get to the moon. We're…"

"I can't find which source material is cited, but from wikipedia, the lunar module page lists 108kg samples returned. The apollo 17 page lists 111kg of samples returned."

"Let's just use the 108kg of rocks brought back by Apollo 17. Looking at the pictures, it doesn't look like there'd be much room at all for bringing back supplies. Given the density of pasta compared to rocks, the 108kg is pretty…"

"I didn't have time to crunch the data today, but if you find the minimum energy to escape, and I find the maximum able to produced by fuel on record, we can use that to determine the max payload."

"I couldn't find it for the apollo project, but other A.50 and n2o4 launches have used a 1.91 mix ratio The lunar module having 10,523kg of fuel on board would give us: -2754.7kg udmh -2754.7kg hydrazine -5013.6kg n2O4 Number crunching tomorrow…"

"Apollo-LM used Aerozine-50 (1/2 unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine [UDMH] and 1/2 hydrazine) as fuel and dinitrogen tetroxide as an oxidizer. UDMH + 4O2 -> 2CO2 + N2 + H2O dH = -1974 kJ N2H4 + O2 -> N2 + 2H2O dH = -622 kJ N2 + O2 -> N2O2 dHf…"

Daniel replied to Justin Dalke's discussion The Earth Burger/ Moon Pasta Debate
"Let's settle on the moon information first, so while I work on the apollo lm (almost there) let's settle on the pasta. I've said before that we should use the largest amount of rocks (111kg) brought back from the moon during Apollo…"

Magic in my media player!

I just picked up Harry Potter and the half-blood prince on bluray, and I've got to say, it's pretty amazing. I watched the film at the theater a couple times, but it's equally exciting to watch the wizarding world wage war in high definition and surround sound. I was most excited about the footage of the next film, but it turned out to be a poor teaser trailer with very little substantial footage.

Speaking of epic movies, if you haven't seen Avatar, I suggest you go see it. If… Continue

Thinking...

The year is drawing to a close. This semester is almost finished, the holiday season is wrapping up, and I am finding myself with more and more free-time on my hands. I got into a car accident, leaving me with no transportation, and my option for free time has been xbox and modern warfare 2. I'd like to find some constructive ways to spend my time, which is usually confined to the house (due to no car). I dislike being a slacker and being disengaged, so I'm going to pick up here in the ning. So… Continue
